West Ham Olympic stadium battle.

f*** Hearn, he wanted us kicked out the league. Orient will be fine, I don't believe anyone goes to Orient because it is too far to travel the extra couple of tube stops to West Ham.

Spurs had the better bid, they weren't going to knock down the whole thing and start again, they were going to keep most of it, it's just that it would be most of the bits you cant see rather than the actual stands etc. It is a horrible stadium for football anyway. But I don't think Spurs should be able to just move across London like that.

Also, all this stuff about the promises that the stadium would be kept for athletics after the Olympics etc is nonsense, that was a myth created by West Ham / the press, that was never what was promised.

And nobody in their right mind can possibly believe anywhere near 60,000 people are going to go and watch Athletics, apart from at the Olympics. Athletics would be much better off having a 25,000 revamped stadium at Crystal Palace

Apologies if this mini rant has nothing to do with any of the other posts on this thread as I haven't bothered reading it, I just saw the title.

well thats just where the problem lies, its not quite a myth but wasnt formally specified either. an unwriten expectation, everyone knew that it was expected for the stadium to be retained after the tax payer forked out £600million + to build the f***ing thing in the first place. its refered to as " a legacy" so that they were not hostage to keeping the stadium the event no one came through with a plan that included keeping it.

spurs wont need to gain 30000 fans - they already have enough. i believe there is quite a long waiting list for season tickets already, so it would be very much like arsenal's move from higbury to the emirates in that the capacity should be instantly filled

i think the bigger issue with west ham is that if young kids are able to go to a club for free on their doorstep, who are they more likely to grow up supporting? that will be what cuts into orients fanbase, taking away their future generations of fans and eventually making them unsustainable as a club

for what its worth, if the bid was going to go to a football team then it obviously should have been west ham. i can just see why orient and hearn are pretty worried about the situation

There are 45k Bronze members. All Bronze members are on the Season Ticket waiting list.

Newbury, Berkshire.
It's not about the stadium being used solely for athletics though, it's about it being able to host anything. It might be a visit from the Pope, Commonwealth Games, Monster Trucks, the X games, a ( insert the name of the biggest current artist in the world here but not Michael Jackson ) World Tour, Boxing Matches, a public hanging ..................

In fact, tell Hearn just how much he could make out of hosting a boxing match there with a 60,000 capacity and I bet he'd suddenly change his tune.

but do spurs fans really wanna mover from now london to east i know many and not one of them do

Abbout a 50:50 split. Old timers like me are dead against it. The younger element think it will give us more chance of CL football (more bums on seats = more revenue = better players).

What i dont understand and i might be wrong, but didnt you at one point get planning permission for a build in north London, i just dont see why spurs would move across London and thats ok yet the Hammers wanna move a mile and there getting slaughtered.

You're talking to the wrong youngsters then. Most I've spoke to where heavily pushing the Say No To Stratford agenda.

Yep. Levy & the board can't raise the necessary funding.

The younger element were not actually 'pro' Stratford (on the whole) but were more open to the idea.

the question is begged, how can they get the funding for the larger project of rebuilding the stratford site? i believe originally it was to cost them quite alot more than the White Hart Lane redevelopment which seem to gain costs all of a sudden once they changed tack.

Rebuilding Stratford to 'our' design was quoted as costing £200mn less than the NDP (new Stadium in N17).

see thats another thing i dont get why knock down a 700mill stadium of tax payers money, then rebuild and new one for 500mill, people would just be amazingly f***ed off.

No idea. There is a million page thread on glory-glory if you want to know all the ins & outs (& so long as you are not on suicide watch).

Having read that Telegraph article I'd say Spurs have quite a good case.

The problem is the building of the Olympic Stadium has changed the football dynamic in the capital. In order to compete at the highest level you need either a multi-billionaire owner and/or a massive football stadium. Presently, Spurs and West Ham have neither.

I totally buy the Spurs argument that West Ham are getting "state aid" from Newham. Why should they? This is not how football works.

There getting a 40mill loan but people seem to forget its not just West Ham that are going to be playing there, there are essex20/20 team, local athletics, schools. Why should West Ham pay for everyone else, also west ham are the ones paying for the transformation costs.

it might look that way, Pavillionaire, you need to consider the history. as i say earlier, Spurs didnt seem interested until very late and the loan only came up once they lost. they had or expected assistance from Haringey for thier original plans. and didnt we get assistance from BHA council on our stadium, like the land? or was that paid for at commercial rates, i forget? how much did Man City pay for their shiney new stadium, built for the commonwealth games?

its how business works, a manufacturer might be given a loan or land to build a new plant, so why not football?

Having had a look at the design of the stadium, it stands-out that for football it looks terrible for the supporter.Even if you can bring the fans closer to the pitch with moverable seating, they're going to end up out in the open. So, the roof will need to be extended or your get a Withdean effect. Those at the back will need a tv to see what's happening on the other side of the pitch and as for WH letting kids in cheap, how long would that last with the need to run the club and the stadium. Their support has always been mainly local and I can't see where another 20 to 25,000 new fans are coming from in London where there are more successful clubs.

The roof is only temporary for the olympics, basically because the top tier is only designed to be temporary. West Ham have already said that they will build a new roof and also do some structural work on the top tier to make it pernament.
