Unless you have children under the age of 5, I just fail to see why anybody would ever take a holiday in the UK. You can usually go abroad for the same price and it'll be much better. A whole week holidaying in England has to be one of the biggest wastes of money it is possible to suffer.
So you've said, but haven't answered my questions on L'ton.

Lyme Regis? Nice small seaside town, not too far from Exeter and Weymouth for days out.

This. Went to a wedding there at the weekend, it's a cracking little town and plenty of places nearby.

Which shows you're not well travelled in this country !

Bridport.

Close to Lyme, Weymouth, Charmouth, West Bay, The Ilchester Arms!, Dorchester, the list goes on.

This..West Dorset is lovely, and the coastline great, from Chesil Beach up to the Jurassic coast and fossil hunting. Lots in land too. Dorchester is worth a visit, and is at the centre of Hardy Country with his house nearby at Higher Bockhampton. You can also visit the Cerne Abbas Giant too. There's a great pub called the New Inn there (or was when my dad ran it about 30 years ago!)

This post does seem a tad ignorant.

North Cornwall, Bude. I've been half way round the world but I still can't find a better spot. Camping if your on the budget, Beaches for all tastes, plenty of surf, great local vibe.

Must admit I am a tiny bit bias given its my home town... But everyone who visits from around the UK comes back!

I don't want to be! I'll continue spending my money visiting the finest spots of Europe and the rest of the world while mugs pay the same money for caravans, rain, shit food, boring cities and a landscape that offers little more than a few hills and the occasional cliff.

So you say you're not well travelled in the UK and then go on to say the UK is full of "caravans, rain, shit food, boring cities and a landscape that offers little more than a few hills and the occasional cliff", how do you know all this without visiting places?

Bigbury-on-sea well worth a visit. Massive sandy beach when the tide is out & when it's in the kids will love a ride over to Burgh Island on the big tractor.

Edit:- forgot to add, stayed there when I was about 5 years old, never left my memory. Have been back several times to enjoy it.

Your loss and everyone elses gain then I guess. We wouldn't want a miserable sod like you ruining this beautiful country. There are some stunning places in this country with top class hotels ( and some very good deals ), Michelin star restaurants in some of the most stunning countryside in the world. I can easily find places in this country to match some of the finest places in Europe and the World ...... and I visited many across the globe.

Went down to Zumerzet three or so years ago (very nice indeed) and places of interest for you around where you intend to go for you and your kids may be Stonehenge (on the way there or back) Wookey Hole and Bath.

I'm switched on enough to realise what goes on in my own country and the holidays people go on. In fact, two members of my family were on separate holidays in the UK last week, and I told them both I thought they sounded shit. If it was a budget option I could totally understand it as I appreciate plenty of people don't have the money to be visiting decent foreign places, but what I find baffling is that it often costs a fortune to visit places like Cornwall. Seriously, what is anybody getting out of that in comparison to a few days abroad?

You can't possibly know what a place is like unless you actually go there. I freely admit there are some shit places in the UK but there are also some absolutely fantastic places that I have enjoyed just as much if not more than places I have been to abroad. There are also plenty of shit and boring places in other countries too. What I find baffling is the way the you can dismiss the whole country as a holiday destination, it's the kind of thing I'd expect from a child.
