All true Dazzer but what about the crosses taken and command of the box charts?

I cant believe they are where they are with that strike force of 3. Sharp / McGoldrick and the big ginger lad - none of them would get near our team.

because its not just about talent, its about application, commitment and teamwork mixed with good management and luck.

We have midfielders who when they do shoot have already written it off as a miss or been blocked hence very little contribution from that area and that's true of the wingers as well though Trossard is moving in teh right direction. Get a few more goals and the 1-0 defeats are drawers and the drawers are wins and we too would have been further up the table. We could improve the defence but that is not the priority.

Good call. Only way he is likely to get plenty of starts in the PL

I don't see it myself, although i'd be delighted.

He's started 26 of Man Utd's 34 games, 6 sub appearances too. He's only not made the squad once so far this season, and has been an unused sub once as well. All in all a decent amount for a player stepping up to this level for the first time.

A goalkeeper must command his area and is able to get out and catch the ball. A goalkeeper who stays on his line is ALWAYS a liability. .

This is a not really as big an issue as people suggest. Ryan is absolutely not glued to his line (in most situations) - he's actually really quick to come out sweeping, or in a one on one situation. High balls from set pieces, I agree, he rarely comes to collect, but that will be by design. It will have been discussed, as a team and management, and they've decided that in those situations, he'll stay close to his line and leave Burn, Dunk, Duffy, Webster or any one of our giants, to deal with it.

It works well enough - excepting the one bad day at Anfield when VVD scored two, how many goals have we conceded from such situations all season?

The way they do it is far, far safer than a situation where a keeper comes for SOME high balls, and not others - that really makes life difficult for the defenders.

One big weakness for us is having a midfielder who can receive the ball under pressure from Dunk or Webster and do something with it. Bissouma is probably the best at doing that now, but both Propper and Stephens get caught a lot. It´s an extremely difficult skill but essential for the way we play. So along with a striker, this position is the one that needs attention IMO.

Edit: I forgot about Alzate. He has the potential to be that midfielder

This is my feeling as well. I think a really solid CM alongside Biss is a key addition for us and the way Potter wants to play. I agree Alzate could be that player, but one to replace Dale is essential. Possibly Molumby could be that player.

Not really kicking a ball now though is he... and I am assuming United will go in for another forward at least... pushing him further down the order.
Better for him and Utd to get him out playing regular prem football
Well that's my thought anyway.

For some reason Potter doesn't rate Bernardo otherwise he would be first choice LB, and we know BDB is not a LB (although he has done well there) but we need another Lamptey type for LB.

We also need a new DCM, Stephens has given us excellent service over the years but his lack of pace and dwindling on the ball is telling with how we want to quickly "transistion" as the kids call it. We need a strong defensive midfielder who can pick a pass and can pick up the ball on the half turn. Not sure what types of Midfielders are Molumby and Alzate, are they strong enough to take on that responsibility? If not then we need one of those.
Finally a striker in the Murray mold, easier said than done as most sides would like a quicker Murray type of player!

Ryan is not a weakness for me and with Walton back to challenge him, I can see an improvement from him next season.

So 3 main first team players to buy:

Pacy left back
Strong defensive midfielder
Pacy target man.

We've also got some bloody good (and tall) defenders - Dunk/Duffy/Webster/Burn don't miss much in the air. In virtually all the stats I've seen Maty is in the top 10 - I'm also struggling to think of any serious howlers he's made (unlike Pickford & Guiata for example). Add that to how he seems such a decent bloke, team player etc I find the placing of him near the top of the 'replace/upgrade' list quite bizarre. We'd need to spend tens of millions to do so - and as for Walton coming back to 'put pressure on him' - can't see that either - Walton hasn't looked any better than Button or Steele when I've seen him play.

Sure, but surely the need to do this is reflected in the goals conceded tally.
In that regard I don't consider us as having a weakness to set pieces/crosses generally.

Goals conceded stats confirm that opinion:

Shows how it’s not an unrealistic expectation for a side like us then right? (Wolves / Southampton / Leicester showing it’s possible.

Only Sheffield United in top 10 without a striker in the 15+ goal club which surely suggests that a striker at that level is a necessity, particularly if you have a midfield that rarely produces goals (step forward Propper/Stephens and watch their shots into row Z!).

The good news is that Maupay may well be up to the task next season but he really needs more support from a player in the Murray mould.

I’d be looking for a young, pacy but bigger striker to offer an alternative and backup to Maupay. Connolly has potential but think he should be more of a squad option at present than a first team regular.

Forget buying the finished article; they’ll cost far more than we can afford. We’ll have to take a punt on it and hope they come good. Thought Locadia might be the man but we all know what happened there....

A midfielder who can score a few would be handy too........

McBurnie - given that Potter played him at Swansea, and tried to sign him here, I'm sure he would have got in our team.

(They have Mousset, too)

Don’t think we went in for McBurnie? There was a link cos of Swansea and Potter but didn’t think there was concrete evidence we went for him...

Don’t rate him personally, glad we went Maupay instead.

they have scored one less but conceded 11 less. They have a very decent keeper but i don't think they have individuals who are better than ours they just have worked better as a unit. Not sure whether it will work next year though but they have £100m to play with.

See they are considering Cantwell from Norwich...

That's only natural - how long has Wilder been there ?
