So Wellbeck is off to see a specialist as the hamstrings have had enough, bad news but frankly it was always a risk not getting another body in up front as we all knew .

But it is what it is and we have to find another way and another striker from within the club until at least January, the choices are slim but Tolaj must now come into serious reckoning for at least a spot on the bench and from what I've seen I don't think he will disappoint.

He reminds me of a older breed of striker in the Mickey Small type , excellent at winning flick on headers in midfield for a player to run on to and holds the ball up very well, of course this is mainly against U23 players and he will find it a whole lot harder in the EPL but I reckon if called upon he will do a job and not let the team down or reduce the quality of play already there.

There's absolutely no way we can continue the season successfully with just Maupay and Connolly because odds are one will pick up a injury or the opposition dictates we play with 2 strikers.

This is a massive opportunity for someone to grab and it will be interesting to see how Potter goes with this one .

We can't really expect Ferguson to step up so early in his career and of the two recognised strikers we do have Tolaj is the obvious candidate, unless there's another option he will be involved pretty soon in the matchday squad .

Anyone else have another solution perhaps even continue without a striker on the bench I don't know but it will certainly be interesting to see how we manage without Wellbecks experience .

There's also the choice of Maupay and Trossard as the front 2 and Moder slots into midfield.

With Welbeck's proclivity for "sitting this one out", it was always going to be a huge gamble not to recruit another front man. I can only assume that Potter knows we have a youngster capable of getting us 10 goals in the U23s somewhere. I know little about Tolaj and assumed that Ferguson would have been the lad identified by Potter to do the job when Welbeck inevitably handed in his sick note. I will have a look at Tolaj (but I'm sure he will have a better go at it than Locadia!)

As much as I'd love to, I'm not sure Potter will throw a 16 year old Ferguson into Premier League action. Tolaj seems the more likely option but, hey, what do I know?

If we don’t have faith in da yoof, I wouldn’t have a problem with Gross or Trossard playing further forward if need-be.
Be quite happy to see Mac Allister or Moder operating as part of our front three. Trossard does that anyway - not sure about Gross up there though. Tolaj would be an exciting option, as would Sarmiento.

Presumably we coulld bring back Zeqiri or Sima in January if none of the above will suffice?

I'd assume there is a plan for them to be happy not to sign a striker for the first team over the summer, time to find out what their master plan actually is.

A massive gamble not to bring in another striker with Welbecks injury record

Zeqiri, we could, if the loan deal allows it.

Sima, definitely not, as FIFA rules prohibit a player being registered to more than two clubs in a single season.

Trossard could play in attack, could also switch formation to accomodate more midfielders/wingers (Welbeck has been playing to the left and March could do a job there) or then there is Sarmiento, Tolaj and Locadia (Ferguson probably too young).

Sometimes I forget that you've not watched Albion matches for very long Swanny. Then you go and suggest Locadia gets a game...

Sarmiento has a chance, you'd imagine.

If Potter throws Ferguson straight into the fray, then l would expect Connolly to be beating down the manager's door demanding some answers.
