Welbz not appearing in the training video posted by the club. Every other striker we have featured. Not a great sign.

I don't think he was fit for Cardiff and he didn't make the bench for Swansea where Potter went for Connolly / Locadia.

In that case I’d reckon there’s very little chance that he’s making the jump direct to the senior squad for a league game anytime soon.

I'm sure BW3 will be along, soon, to put the world to rights.

I would be very surprised if MacAllister doesn't come into the team to replace Welbz.

My thoughts exactly Unless the knock he had recently is still troubling him
Leo has been re branded as a striker
I reckon AM and LT playing just behind NM and switching sides / position s a lot during the game to find pockets of space
I don't think GP will go with AC

Agree with this. AliMac, Trossard and Maupay as front three with Connolly and Sarmiento as possible subs.
I think the International break comes at a good time for us. Chance to get Webster, Welbeck fit and possibly Bissouma if he doesn’t play on Saturday.
I also think it gives Tariq time to really get back up to speed and hopefully we’ll have a virtually fully fit squad for the game against Norwich before the really tough two against City and Liverpool.
I think we are quite well placed on the strength of the squad overall but obviously we miss players like Webster and Biss being out.
It’s interesting to see Sarmiento in the squad. He’s really impressed with his last two run outs and I can see him potentially getting a small amount of game time against a side like Arsenal where they aren’t overly physical.

Re the Arsenal game, I can see March coming back in to replace Veltman to add some pace to our right hand side.

I have only seen that Welbeck is going to see a specialist, have I missed the announcement that he is going to be out for months? Or is this a classic case of 2+2=5 and he's now crocked and unable to play for months because he is seeing a specialist?

Speculation or not it's a valid question ( not a statement) , I see nobody has mentioned Locadia, his performance in the U23s game was not exactly a showstopper and of the two Tolaj looked more like the 15 million pound man.

If I were to guess at the time out Danny could be missing I'd say months rather than weeks if he indeed needs some sort of operation, every player is different and healing time varies but the sight of him sitting down shaking his head again it doesn't look good for him or us.

Whatever happens I think the club really do need to go all in for another striker in January, that's if Man City haven't purchased them all already.

The problem we'll have is if Maupay gets injured or suspended. The club took a huge risk going into the season with these striking options. This isn't hindsight. 90% on here said so.

Said so for 2 seasons as well. We shall see.

Connolly will be the option, but opens up a slot on the bench for a Sarmeinto, Tolaj, or Ferguson?

There are plenty of options that involve Maupay, Connolly, Trossard, Moder, March, Richards, Locadia and MacAllister - 6 of whom didn't start v Palace. There's virtually no chance Tolaj or Ferguson or Emmerson are getting near to the bench just yet. Although Sarmiento - who isn't a striker - is a bright prospect - that bench still looks pretty full up even with 9 players.

The 20 players for Arsenal look like being
Sanchez/Steele,
Lamptey, Dunk, Duffy, Burn, Cucurella, Roberts, Veltman , March
Lallana, Gross, Moder, Richards, MacAllister, Bissouma,
Trossard, Maupay, Connolly, Locadia

So potentially 1 spare space if Biss fails the fitness test.

I think this is probably correct. Potter has used Trossard as a striker, or at least false 9, before. With very mixed results though (Spurs away last season, anyone?). And I know it's a statement of the bleedin' obvious but Locadia simply isn't up to the Premier League.

I very much doubt Tolaj or Sarmiento will be thrown in the deep end though, given that list appears to be our core squad and we'd have to feel they were ready. Equally I hope we don't spend a season developing those players and then give them to someone on loan next season. Tolaj looks that "something different" that we don't really have up front and Sarmiento is relentlessly positive.

Overall we can cope without Welbz a number of different ways. Maupay though? If everyone is fit then he joins Sanchez, Dunk and Biss as "must play, now select seven others". I predict a confident, fired up Neal on Saturday again.

I see no-one is fighting Locadia's corner to be in the starting XI.

Including himself per reports of the U23 game.

Sarmiento's goal posted in here for the U23 was sublime as was Tolaj's cross for it. They seem atleast like they want to make it in the first team.

Re Locadia;....

Given that we don't sign any players until they have been seriously vetted, watched multiple times, studied their careers to the nth degree....................................................................... what an earth did the recruitment team see that clearly nobody else.....or team....can ???

This thread started with Welbeck being out for months and seems to have developed into losing Maupay as well.

In this version of reality we are on trouble.

Back to the real world though. Surely Ali Mac or Solly will slot in on the left or Connolly if we are playing more of a front two.

We can continue to develop the youngsters and introduce them when ready, no need to rush.

The problem is Ally mac can not play up front or wide. His best games are at no 10 in-the-hole,when he has players in front of him

i would start him every game when fit,but he has plenty of competition!!

This front 3 was very very poor against Arsenal earlier this year:

——-Trossard———-Mac Allister————-Jahanbakhsh———

I agree with you about Mac, him and Trossard look so much better at No.10.

For me, the forward line has to be:

——Connolly——————--Maupay————
———————Trossard—————————-

I’d then have Locadia, Mac & Sarmiento (we need that pace on the bench) as replacements if needed.
