Here we go. Whataboutery from a white Aussie. Just what the thread was missing.

Classic wealth reference too  . Perhaps you could tell us the size of paycheck that stops you worrying about racism? Mouldy and Fergus seem to struggle with that question.

You've never met me but you think i'm White. News for you champ, I've indigenous family.

So you're not the only one with black people in their family. Mine are blood relatives, yours?

You seem confused though, the word is hypocrisy.

hypocrisy
/hɪˈpɒkrɪsi/

noun
the practice of claiming to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case.

That would seem to cover athletes who are against something only until it impacts them then they are happy to ignore it and even benefit from it.

They must be so proud of some of the views you have espoused on here over the last year or so...!

Many athletes seem to have issue with racism only up until the point it impacts their fat paycheque.

The NBA a prime example of this.

Do the EPL, clubs or players have any deals with Chinese companies?

So it must be refreshing for you to see so many privileged young men, having gone past the 'effecting fat paycheck' point (and some of them never having been affected by it), still sticking by their principles and taking the knee then ?

Or, you could just be another racist performing verbal gymnastics because you don't have the balls to say what you mean. But I bet it's the former

I’m happy that the knee is more relevant than ever.

Keep exposing the racists. Keep making them feel uncomfortable for their views.

They’ve always been here, only now they’re being confronted, over and over and over again.

Well I've no issue with the knee. It has no impact on fixing anything but if they feel the symbolism does good then more power to them.

I said what I meant. How serious are athletes about racism if they are taking money from somewhere that's committing crimes against humanity and potentially genocide?

Added while there were a few dimwit racists who abused these players I prefer to view the overwhelmingly majority who came out and supported them as the true picture as the true nature of the majority of people.

One idiot can leave a racist tweet, but tens of thousands will leave messages of support from all walks of life.

What do you want footballers to do?

Give all their money away? Refuse sponsorship from any company that has an imperfect ethical history? Boycott leagues that receive sponsorship from those companies? Start a campaign about human rights abuses in China and the Middle East?

I'm not sure why it is that athletes are now held to a higher moral standard than politicians or other members of society but the idea that you can't call out one injustice if you're not fighting to change the world in its entirety is plain stupid.

Isn't the old saying practice what you preach?

It's not just athletes, it's anyone who has a platform that speaks out on something should be expected to practice what they preach.

The message is stamp out racism in football. How do you do that when you're taking money and having influence from people and organisations who are some of the worst in the world in that area?

Look at the owners of Man City. Raheem Sterling cops racist abuse on social media but is being paid with racist blood money by the vile pricks who own that club. Just seems rather warped.

The BLM Marxist thing gives people the reason they need to dislike the gesture. Nothing more nothing less.

If it wasn't this then they would find something else.

They just cannot support a gesture against racism and will find any reason they can to excuse it (like Rashford earns too much money).

They hide behind this nonsense as they hide behind their keyboards.

Cowards, we all see them though. Time to out them.

If the players are happy to continue taking the knee in support of BLM,

Now obviously I could have written:-

- Athletes taking to their knee predates the BLM movement.
- The BLM movement attached themselves to the message due to its coverage.
- The England team have repeatedly stated their decision to take to their knee isn't a byproduct of BLM but a genuine desire to highlight global racial inequality and the inequality their friends and colleagues are subjected too within their chosen sport.

But what would be the point of me writing that?

No the word is whataboutery. We're talking about the England team and Pritti Patel here. Not China and the NBA. How much money do you need before racism shouldn't affect you? And, furthermore, who should be the arbiter of what endorsements players do and do not accept?

The fact there is a whole thread on this shows exactly why the knee is being taken. Because it works and it keeps it visible.

Those demanding some other anti-racism gesture (such as wearing "Kick It Out" shirts or whatever) really want it to move to a gesture which is not so obvious and not so difficult to ignore. Which is exactly why the knee will keep being taken.

The England team that has players taking money from far worse people than some utter peanut on social media or dullard politician?

What's the point of a knee when you do that? It's all just theatre if you say one thing and do another.

You'd have to ask the players how much money it takes to ignore something they are apparently against.

I don't know you but I'll go out on a limb and think that if you went for a job and you found out the person or company hiring had racist or seriously problematic issues you'd most likely say **** that and never want to work for them no matter how much money they offered you. I'd be no different.

He said "& then pretend to be disgusted when the very thing we’re campaigning against, happens (racism).
So he's saying she is pretending to be disgusted with racism.
Which means he thinks she isn't disgusted with racism.
Someone who isn't disgusted with racism is presumably, a racist.
So yes he is inferring she is racist.

I don't like Priti Patel as a politician but I suspect an Asian woman in her position has encountered significant racism and sexism herself. Ironically isn't Priti Patel herself (not her politics) a symbol of the sort of changes in society that Mings wants (rightly)?

That's one hell of a stretch to get from what Mings actually wrote to 'Priti Patel is a racist'.

It's hypocrisy, not racism. She could've said nothing and not jumped on the bandwagon, posing for pictures in her boxfresh England shirt. But she didn't. She went there and completely contradicted what she had previously said. At best, it's very misguided.

So, no, you can't answer either of those questions.

Do you have an example of a player who is taking money from "far worse people", who those people are and who decided they were far worse?

I have him on ignore but I’ll answer for him

How about Raheem Sterling or Kyle Walker?

It's no secret that Man City owners are vile human beings.

That was decided by many humanitarian groups who have reported on it.

Nice as it would be if Man City players called out the owners, it's not likely to happen any time soon. That doesn't preclude them from commenting on or protesting other injustices.

Would add that taking the knee predates athletes doing it, as well. MLK in recent memory, but it even predates him by a good margin - from what I've read it has its origins in the movement to abolish slavery here in the UK.

Of course they can comment on anything they like. But if you want to stamp out something in football it's counterproductive to then legitimise something that contributes to the things you're railing against.
