You may have to enlighten me here, although I disagree with the basis of your question as I think it is a crude generalisation. I know many people with right wing politics who can have a discussion without resorting to anger or aggression.

FWIW I would consider my politics fairly central and do not detest the empire (I can't speak for the other 'lefties' as again you have made a crude generalisation).

the answer is we have never been given a proper say on such an important issue as immigration.. and myself I find it very hard to comprehend how you on the LEFT or MIDDLE "either way it makes no odds to me" can support and go along with this diabolical sham our governing bodies have afflicted upon us ? whether you agree with it or not surely it deserves public approval ?

How is the British Empire in anyway comparable to immigration to Britain today?

what is comparable is something that has been wrongly afflicted upon society without a single form of consent from its people. whether or not immigration has been going on for years in a civilized democratic state the people deserve a say. this from a country that preaches democracy and boasts its democratic ha ha

Good post. UKIP have channelled everyones anger at unemployment, lack of housing, inflation, nhs etc etc on immigration. As I said earlier blame the minority, the gift that keeps on giving.

If people weren't so brainwashed they would realise immigration has a tiny impact on the above. The rich are simply diverting the publics attention from them getting richer.

Perceptive post. How many fervent and impassioned words have been written on NSC in condemnation of Bernie Ecclestone avoiding his £1.2bn tax bill? £1.2bn! "It's economy, stupid" but it's too far removed to anger the ordinary people struggling to make ends meet in a harsh economic climate.

The people up the road who look and act different aren't though.

I voted for a yes for a referendum about EU membership. So on this point I agree with you. I just think that the amount of focus on immigration is out of whack with its influence over peoples lives and that we should also be discussing other factors that are stifling our standard of living.

However I find it odd that you suggest that the right do not get their say on major issues when there really hasn't been a truly left government since the late 70's. Even Blair's Labour governement had to move to the right to gain power.

I suspect is has more to do with picking the easy fight. There is little point in attacking the establishment as it will be hard to win, so why not just blame an easy target like immigrants, students, the sick and the unemployed. Of course the establishment are more than happy to encourage this and deflect the blame from themselves.

but parodyng the name of their religion, id probably avoid, out of respect.

But thats just you isnt it,or should i say you and a vocal minority of people like you.

I understand you hate certain things and from your links and favour to certain groups its clear you would prefer people to just be silenced on some issues.

Personally i prefer freedom of speech even if it means supporting the right of the nutters to spout the ugly stuff i hate and have to pinch myself about and curse under my breath.

The act of parodying everything from literature to art and religion is an important part of culture. The ancient Greeks started it and has continued for two thousand years.Parody is alive and well on social media,Youtube thrives on it and im sure you have liked or commented on items of parody with a political element regarding groups you hate.

I see no reason to stop parody because you think it should be avoided out of respect simply because suddenly you dont like who it is aimed at.

That is known as fascism........

yet once slimey blair (alias war criminal) gained control he certainly made up for it with his immigration policy along with the massive spending spree that came with it, then joker brown followed suit with more of the same and worse..by selling our gold reserves and announcing the move in advance .. something we are still paying a heavy price for today. there is absolutely nothing right wing about any of that stuff ? name me one right wing policy since the seventys im seriously interested ?

the amount of focus on immigration is piss poor it had hardly ever been discussed up until farage, as far as the left were concerned the word had a racist slur attached to it.. now though and thankfully so due to farage that slur is beginning to wilt, dress it up all you like immigration is the root cause of unrest. only until we can balance immigration we can move on.

Fair enough Dave,i see you failed however to address the issue of parody.

If questioning and opposing your idea that parody should now be avoided in terms of religion results in me being called a windbag, it is a small price to pay for me being correct.

Of course anybody that is worried about the amount of immigration, the way certain people are trying to change this country etc, well you know the speech....is immediately branded.
Meanwhile we have these people.

I shall be voting UKIP, voted Labour but never again. It's now been over two weeks since the rise of UKIP, I have heard nothing from the Labour that puts me at ease about mass immigration, it's just more of the same and more stupid articles like this http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/cap-immigration-british-women-more-3642093

I just watched Meridian news, where we have 800 Asylum Seekers writing letters to our government asking be let in to the UK. They have been offered Asylum in France, but they don't want it. Is this the type of immigration they call a benefit our economy, because until our governments work out the difference between quality migration, and low skilled migrantion that offer us little benefit and become a drain on the system, this issue is never ever going to go away.

If our government lets these people in, that will just encourage more and more people to try their luck. Not enough that our borders are open to the EU as it is, we don't need this on top of it.
