Wise words EL Pres but the Davies attention seeking after the game really winds me up.
You've got to decide whether Davies has the ability and is just trying too hard or whether he is ' a headless chicken ' with no class or composure.
Myself, well I can only compare him with Forster and Murray ( and these two could be leading the line in Div.2 next season ) and I'm afraid that he looks out of his depth.
Football is full of players who have incredible workrate...its what got them noticed when they were kids...and has carried them ever since. They don't have the ability of some kids but their desire is greater. At some stage of their careers, workrate is no longer enough and that little touch of class ( that you get with Forster and Murray ) is missing.
Natural goalscorers have that innate ability to stay calm when the chance presents itself and I see nothing in Davies that persuades me that he is ' a natural '
The panic and ' snatching ' at chances is what separates the men from the boys in the penalty area i.e Forster and Murray v Davies and Robinson.
Anway the show by Davies yesterday was utterly absurd and embarrassing. He walked around the whole ground applauding all 4 sides and was still on the pitch after all the other players were in the changing room. Cringeworthy.
Why is that embarrassing? He's making a point of thanking the fans for their support through a very bad time. So much has been made of players not seeming to care and when they do display signs of caring that's cringeworthy? There really is no pleasing some people.
It was over the top yesterday. Ok show some appreciation like Whing and Elphick do but to make a point of being on the pitch 2 minutes after the game ended and all the other players were in the changing room smacks off attention seeking and I care more than anyone else.
Yes well done Craig, a hero for clapping the fans every week
He did alright yesterday, ran around a lot, gave it his all. Fair play. However, he's a striker that couldn't hit a barndoor, which isn't much use really.
I wondered how long it would take you to get in on the act. I don't think you'll find I've called him a hero anywhere but don't let that get in the way of your negative ramblings. On your second point; his record says otherwise. I repeat ad nauseum - strikers go through patches like this (Nicky Forster anyone?) it's just that some people have decided to give up on Davies before he's been given a fair chance. You were slating him after a couple of games.
Have you actually seen his record?
Take penalties out of the equation, and he's really not scored very many at all.
His finishing is shit. Forster might go through games after scoring, but he doesn't go through spells blazing shot after shot wide.
Yes I have.
The same could be said for Forster this season.
He's blazed two shots wide. The other chances have been narrowly missed, hit the woodwork or been saved.
Craig Davies record
Oxford United 26 - 8
Wolverhampton Wanderers 10 - 2
Oldham Athletic 38 - 12
Stockport County 28 - 7
Brighton & Hove Albion 13 - 1
Total 115 - 30
A goal every 4 games. Not amazing but not the record of someone who can't hit a barndoor either. How does that compare with Gattings record in first team games US?
