Precisely - if you follow some idiots argument on here you could say the club have built too big a stadium! Should have kept at 22k and doubled prices instead. And when we get in the premiership just quadruple and get rid of the east Stand perhaps and make a car park?!

This is such a daft thread anyway and just shows that the human capacity to argue the toss and fight over nothing, even across related communities, holds no bounds! Give it a rest Pilkdown, why you feel the need to be so vitriolic is bizzare. You sound extremely childish and a bore. Just be happy we won a fantastic game and concentrate on that boy!

Actually I thought the atmosphere from watching on the tele was superb: I loved the north versus west stand in 2nd half, bloody deafening and west just shaded it which coming from a north stander I hate to admit! Probably only because west stand only sing when we're winning against higher opposition mind.... ;)

Loads of songs came across load and proud on the box, good stuff all!
Yeah, this.

Ignoring other factors, such as the extra revenues accrued from refreshment and merchandising sales, are you really saying that you believe "getting it right" is the maximisation of revenue over and above all other metrics?

There were nearly 6000 (six thousand) empty seats in that magnificent stadium today. Did the club really "get it right" if there is a chance that some or all of those could have had bums on them?

Whoa, very emotive!

In the real world (far removed from the life forms supported by NSC that would nit pick to the nth degree about the capacity of a pin to support dancing angels) it's all about percentages rather than absolutes.

In that reality, the club got it far more right than wrong.

But could do better and no room in football or any business for complacency

One thing I don't get is the huge numbers of people (maybe rightly so) moaning about the £37 tickets prices even though cheaper areas such as the north and south stand being available. Despite all that, the more expensive areas like ESU and West stand lower central looked more full than the 'cheap' seats.

Certainly, early on, certain areas were not available online (like WSU with £28 & £32 seats) and it looked like only the more expencive, or those that would be more likely to be seen on TV, that were sold.

The attendance wasn't a disaster, but it certainly wasn't a success either, as the 6000 empty seats testify. Lots of longstanding STHs not turning up.

As Bozza says, the club believed they had priced it right for a sell out, and it wasn't. Hopefully they learn from today.

Agree, Barber/the club need to listen to their customers. They didn't tease me in to watch it, i only pray that Barber doesn't muck about with ST holders prices for next season, i really don't trust him.

Well done Barber,

turning a game that would have EASILY been a sell out into a game that barely scraped over 20,000. Not impressive considering it was a 'glamour' home tie. THOUSANDS of season ticket holders felt they had been priced out and voted with their feet. Good on them.

Last season v Non League Wrexham we filled 84% of the ground. Today against top league opposition we filled 77%.

just guessing that the club are aware of this and possibly did the math on last season before setting the price for today

Good to see that the Posh had a good turnout today, great club with a top old school ground. Always a cracking away-day.

And the takings from those games were? Off the top of my obviously retarded head would suggest that the 84% of a smaller capacity at lower prices would fall well below that of a 77% of an increased capacity full paying attendance. Please tell me I'm wrong.

Jesus. I feel like Theo in Dragon's Den just before he says "I'm out".

Takings are turnover. Tell me how we've made a profit by selling 4-5000 LESS tickets thsn normal? We have TV money but then we also have to split the gate money....

By selling the majority of them at a higher price than the normal (discounted ST) price?

So we do have some certified operating profit figures from today. Care to share with the group?

Stop being a bore. As you obviously KNOW that the club made a loss today, please share your FACTS.

The only facts are that nobody knows whether the club got it right or wrong. For a third round game that was live on the telly, there would always be some people that would stay at home and take the easy option. If the prices were an average of £25 nobody can say the club would have sold all of the missing 6,000. Also, comparisons to league attendences are misleading at the very least bearing in mind we know that the figures released are tickets sold, not bums on seats. You only have to look around at league games to know there are empty seats from sth that don't go. That also has an effect on matchday sales in the kiosks, in other words, let say for argument sake that 3k STH on average don't turn up for league games. That means there are approx 23k bums on seats which isn't too different from the attendence today.

The only facts from my perspective is that I was there and we are in the 4th round. Be nice to see the gooners or manure at the Amex next (same price structure again, of course!).

It's cos the east stand were singing with the west. Half the WSU was empty.

Tranny v Derby, Oldham v Forest, Barnsley v Burnley are all under 100 miles, with great connections.
Leeds v Brum is a touch further but hardly a slog of a journey.

I would struggle to conjure up four less attractive fixtures if I tried. And 100 miles is now a local derby?

Cracking atmosphere? Are you having a laugh? The atmosphere on the tv sounded awful and like being at a morgue.

Atmosphere sounded great on my TV thank you very much. Suggest you get your speakers fixed.
