Since he had surgery in October and then returned to the squad on Boxing Day Danny has been involved in every Premier League match day squad, playing in every game except Everton away where he was an unused sub. There was real optimism from the club that the surgery was going to fix the persistent problem he'd been having with his hamstring and this really does seem to be the case. Hopefully the fact we've got him the fittest he's been in years and he's clearly enjoying his football here will make it a no brainer for him to sign the new deal.

Fingers crossed that the optimism is warranted. From the Southampton home game to the last game of the season against West Ham Danny played all 90 minutes for five league games in a row. This is the first time he has ever done this since making his EPL debut against Stoke in November 2008. During those five games he scored three and assisted three. We won three and drew two. Re-signing him and maintaining his fitness and his end of season form could be a game changer for us.

I didn't realise he'd never completed 5 games in a row before, obviously a lot of changes are tactical but it shows the faith we have that he can see out a game now.

That run of games he missed after surgery we drew 7 and lost 3. If Danny had been available and playing like he was at the end of season we could have easily found ourselves challenging for a Europa/Conference League spot this season. Like you say Welbeck being fit all season could be huge for us.

Seems a totally different player before and after the injury. Before it he was doing okay, scored a couple, but at times didn’t get involved enough I thought. Maybe lacked some confidence to really get stuck in. And it meant at times he would drift in and out games. But after the injury he was absolutely brilliant, full of confidence, and caused defences so many issues. More of that next season please.

Am I right in saying there was some sort injury that over the last few seasons kept coming back for him, & couldn’t quite shake it off, but the last time he was out the physios/doctors were finally able to pin point the problem & treat it. Which possibly has caused the end of season good form. Or have I imagined reading about that somewhere?

Think you are right. He had an op on one leg last season which was very successful so when he had problem in the other leg this season he had the same op & we saw a player transformed. Really want him to stay.

Great news, it will save 25 million plus that a player of his calibre would cost TB to replace

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
I believe Naylor said there was an option for a further year, so that's probably been exercised whilst a new deal is being negotiated. Maybe a similar two-year deal to Pascal's.

That’s what I thought too.
Great news especially now his injury seems to be behind him.

Could do a job for England. Player-manager perhaps.

If we have really fixed his injury problems he will be immense for the Albion next season. England can feck right off, Southgate doesn’t pick Albion players the Palace **** :lolol:

What's going on with wellbz contract ?

Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk

I think he just extends with us on an annual basis.

Good for him because he can renegotiate (he is top 6 team talent).

Good for us because if he has another big injury, our contractual time period liability is reduced.

Oh…..and he loves it here and we love him (especially with those big guns).
