Curious question. Does it feel weird having a different person?

Yes at times it is a bit strange. As he lost the weight he has become morre confident and outgoing to so it's not just that he looks like a diffent person but his personality is different to. But different in a good way. he still has a bit more to lose but he has done most of it.

I find that very hard to believe, I'd like to see the scientific research done there.

Its called interval training and is a well established fact.

A similar effect, is a few number of lifts with weights at near maximum exersion is better than hundreds using an easy weight. Much of the time spent at the gym is wasted effort.

It was you who broke it x

Be quiet, don't wash our dirty linen in public.

Interval training has been around forever, it obviously works well but I'd definitely question those particular numbers.

I agree with weights comparison in principle but there's so many ways of skinning this particular cat that you can't say one way is more correct than another, it all depends on what your end goal is. Weight training is all about maximum intensity but you also need variation otherwise everything gets conditioned to work in a cirtain way.I guess it's the same for CV. In my gym workouts I'll throw in some some high rep lower weight quite often, but still go to point of failure. I tend not to leave much recovery time between sets either, 90 seconds max

The more different ways you hit your body the more it has to adapt, they key is pushing the limit every time.

**P.s I'm not trying to tell people how to suck eggs, you lot probably know more than I do, just adding my opinion to the debate

I'm working in Milton Keynes on the Saturday morning, so touch and go whether I will get to the match.

Yep, thats how i do it.
Weights wise i usually do 3 or 4 sets of 12 reps, at the maximum intensity i can do whilest maintaining technique (otherwise 90% of excersizes will be ineffective), and about 25 minutes cardio as thats all i can usually put up with doing. Its worked for me, i've lost weight and gained a bit of size in muscle, and i dont come out every day feeling like shit either

Eating a good breakfast everyday makes a huge difference, it kick starts your metabolism and gives you much better energy level throughout the morning. A big bowl of porridge is probably the best thing you can eat to start the day.

Interval training is undoubtedly good, but I'm also sceptical that only 4 mins interval training can burn the same energy as a 20 min steady run. Heavy weight training is also another excellent calorie burner as your body needs plenty of calories to repair and build muscle. You want to be lifting the sort of weight for which it'd not be physically possible to lift more than 8 reps in one set, stick to the big basic lifts such as squats, bench press, shoulder press, pull ups and parralel bar dips, and do 3 sets of each 2-3 times a week. Note that you may not notice the difference on the scales as muscle weighs more than fat, but you will start to notice the difference in shape within 2-3 weeks.

If you want to gym properly, the best thing you'll ever do is buy Starting Strength.

Amazon.com: Starting Strength (2nd edition) (9780976805427): Mark Rippetoe, Lon Kilgore: Books

Also don't listen to personal trainers at the gym and avoid machines.

This is a good free e-book as well.

Get the book. brain over brawn

I have always been in favour of a fat tax. I have worked it all out, and can see no negatives only benefits.

I spent December sitting on the sofa eating Quality Street.
Wii Fit says I have lost 7lbs.

I cannot guarantee that this will work for everyone.

Paul McKenna -

- Eat what you want to eat; not what you think you should eat

- Eat only when you're hungry

- Stop eating when you're full

- Chew everything really slowly

Other tips are to always leave something on your plate and put your knife and fork down between mouthfuls

It all sounds like psycho-babble b*ll*cks but it works

My suggestions fwiw...

If you feel hungry have a drink of water first. If you don't like plain water put something like a splash of orange juice or low cal cordial in it.
Have three meals a day with dinner being 2/3rds veg and 1/2 meat and only fruit or veg snacks between.
If you feel you've deserved a treat - have one. The longer you go without a treat often the bigger the blowout is.
Try to read labels of your food and pay attention to fat levels and salt levels. Try to steer clear of take aways and junk food.
There are loads of great recipes all over the internet for lower fat versions, just keep in mind because its lower in fat you can't eat twice the portion!
Exercise - even just a 30-45 minute fast walk around your neighbourhood a few times a week.
