Webster, March, Lamptey out for the season. Christ.
Hopefully we can get them fit for next season, I can't wait for the end of this one. it's a disaster.

Why is anyone talking about who we might sell in the summer?

We need to be thinking about who we're going to play at the back if we have one more injury or suspension to any of Veltman, White, Dunk or Burn

This is the real point. If we lose another defender we are in trouble with no cover. Karbo is untried and seemingly is really a midfielder. Alzate is a midfielder. We have no more defensive replacements, other than the U-23s, most of whom are also out on loan. It must be a huge worry to the club.

Karbo should be able to cover in either full back role, based on his sole appearance against Leicester and his international experience.

Otherwise, Yapi would be the next man up.

I heard he was out for the season 3 weeks ago - and posted on here. It was 50/50 if he needed an operation on here, and the same source was who told me Lamptey was out before it was public

Springal old boy re Lamptey is your source of the opinion that his injury is potentially career ending?

And what about the poor run before that?

I'm not potter out but it's not like we were winning games prior to their injuries.

With the exception of Everton and Leicester we had only lost by the odd goal and drawn too many.
This was because our defence was shaky.

Then Potter added Sanchez which was the final piece to our defence.
Almost everyone on here agreed that was the case.

We started to look solid.
Webster and Dunk were able to focus on their jobs and we started winning and drawing games.
Stopped shipping silly goals.

Take a look at the 5 goals concedes in the last 3 games.
I'd argue that 3 of them don't happen with Webster and March playing.

Karbownik is an interesting one. Does anyone know if he's fit? I don't see the point in recalling a full international who can play WB on either side and not stick him at least on the bench, if not the starting XI.

I watched your Latest TV thing, Wasn't sure whether to comment on that thread or here but this'll do. I obviously don't know the answer to the question you've asked Springal but to call Lamptey a three wheel car was a little unfair.

I think we've paid about market value for the risk. He cost double what Tammy Abraham's people were allegedly asking for a loan fee. Unfortunately he's young and very very quick and that combination of still developing and being really quick does make you susceptible to hamstring injuries. My guess is that this is a loaded bet from TB. If it comes off we have a fantastic, quick, creative player who could potentially play on the wing or at standard right back, and who we could get ten times the price for. If he is permanently crocked then we've only lost 2M and, as per above, we should have a full international who can replace him.

He undoubtedly would have not shown anything up at medical stage because he played a good number of games early in his Albion career. However, if we didn't see him as a massive hamstring risk we've been naive. Maybe that is why Karbownik was purchased?

Our defensive options just feel horribly unbalanced now. Realistically you can’t anticipate losing both of your fullbacks/wingbacks for the season or Webster being out for a long period, but the depth of cover just isn’t there. I keep pondering a formation change might help but can’t really think of a viable alternative.

It's the left side that's the problem, fortunately we still have Veltman on the right.

But Burn covering Webster and March on the left is a huge drop in quality.

Considering how many CBs have been at club it is bad management that we are in the poo because of Webster injury. Forgetting Clarke I consider Bernardo is a better FB then Burn and Balagon now at Rangers was a better CB

This is a major problem . We just have to do enough to avoid relegation. I do think we are better than Newcastle especially with 3 of their key goal scoring players out injured .

Yep, the left side is a conundrum. I could see Karbownik playing RWB, Veltman dropping into the back 3 and pushing Burn to LWB, not ideal but it loosely resembles a decent defence.

Almiron, Wilson and Saint-Maximin are all due back after the international break so they’ve got to get through two more games without them, obviously one of those is against us which means Joelinton is guaranteed to score an unlikely goal.

So which CB plays on the left?
Dunk? With White in the centre? Or Velts and keep Dunky central?

I kind of assumed that because Dunk played the left side in a 4 he was the logical choice to play the left CB in a 3.
I was surprised that Webster was always chosen over Dunk to play the left CB role, but it worked.
