You were obviously under pressure to include Mayo.

exactly!! The only weakish positions in this team are full-back but Ingimarsson is a quality player and has played there and it is Mayo season 02/03. Presumably the BG XI would have a place for Steve Melton.

5 years ago I watched the Albion lose 2-1 to Halifax.

Two weeks ago I saw the Albion beat Leeds 1-0, not longer after beating Forest and Leicester by the same margin.

Then the answer is obvious we have stronger squads then them but still the weakest in 5 years

The Albion squad for the first day of the season 1999-2000:

Mark Ormerod
Chris Wilder
Jamie Campbell,
Keith McPherson
Gary Hobson
Andy Crosby
Paul Rogers (c)
Charlie Oatway
Rod Thomas
Gary Hart
Darren Freeman

Subs: Paul Armstrong, Dave Cameron, Ross Johnson, Kerry Mayo, Aiden Newhouse

at their prime Paul Rogers and Mcpherson would have held their own in Div 1/Championship, but with the exception of Crosby (who was unlucky that Simon Morgan joined) those that have left have disappeared down the leagues.

The unfortunate thing is that with the finances as they are we will not be able to pay players of Championship standard in their prime. It is inevitable that we will either get somebody old going down or a youngster on his way up. If only we could find another Simon Morgan.

Simon Morgan is arguably the best CB we have had in the past ten years, shame that we couldn't get 3 or 4 seasons out of him. While Danny Cullip took most of the plaudits (and they did complement each other and form an excellent partnership) it was Morgans reading of the game and positional sense that stood out. His contribution was often unheralded but his absence was certainly noticeable the following season in Div 1.

While we are at it can we find another striker in Bristol Rovers reserves.

They seem to come out of there like off of a conveyor belt

Roberts, Ellington, Stewart ,Hayles,Zamora. Have they any more is was it Ian Holloway and his judgement that found them.

absolute bollox. we have a good squad - not the greatest ever but good enough to stay up which is all we need to do till falmer is built - think we'll hold back from promotion to the prem - reckon mghee's said that to our small tiny squad - 'let's not bother going up to prem this yr lads. If we'd beaten #Crewe we'd nearly be in top half - let's not panic yet - though we need loan signings cause of injurys and the managers reluctancy to play players in their correct positions

But it is the squad we have now im worried about. The squad that got us here was stronger. We are heading one way incase you missed it and dont look like creating a chance away let alone scoring.

The squad that got us here last time spent pretty much the whole time in the relegation zone. Apart from losing 3 players due to retirement (who barely played last season) this is tha same squad as last season + nicholas, Currie, Jarrett and Molango so hardly weaker.
As for heading one way we have lost 3 in a row which is hardly a disaster. I think a lot of people are wildly over-reacting to a disappointing loss to Crewe (who IMHO were a lot better than people gave them credit for)

You could certainly create a strong looking team with the various players we have had in the past 3 years.

Kuipers/Roberts

Ingimarsson Morgan Blackwell Harding/Mayo

Currie Nicolas Sidwell Rodger

Knight Zamora

subs: Cullip, Carpenter, Brooker, Beasant, Benjamin

I'd settle for Bobby back to play up front with little Leon. That could be a great partnership at this level. :nono:

Weakest squad for 5 years?

But aren't we in our highest league position during that time?

But with 5 points from the last 7 matches - relegation form! :nono: :nono:

The way things are at the moment, i'd settle for Freeman & Ramsay up front on Sat.:D

Am I going mad? This is our highest league position at this point in the season for how many years? About 12 off the top of my head, and you are asking is this our weakest squad for yonks?
WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE WANT?!!
I know there are serious short comings but some of you out there are living in fantasy land. Or as I said, maybe it's just me? :p

No Lokki it's them!!!

It's unbelievable that people think this is a weak squad!! I think that last season on paper we had the strongest squad in Div2. Before Coppell left I was convinced we were goign to waltz the division. True, the squad hasn't changed much since then plus we've lost Blackwell, Rodger and Piercy (who didn't play that much anyway). But Currie's more than made up for it.

Kuipers is playign better now than any keeper since Eric Steele! Harding, Virgo, Knight, Nicholas and El Abd have real potential. Hardign and Hinshelwood could go that way too... also possibly McPhee, Jarrett and Robinson.

It's not a weak squad IT'S A YOUNG ONE!!! With masses of potential. If we can keep the young 'uns (and that's a BIG 'if') we have the makings of a really great team... which cost us peanuts.

Whether it keeps us up is another matter...

The squad in general is more than ok it just lacks that proven goalscorer and we all know that

I dunno anything about this?

Unless you have access to the clubs current financial situation and the exact amounts for payments to Piercy, Blackwell & Rodger - leaving an exact amount available to pay a player's basic wage, signing on fee, relocation, National Insurance, bonuses etc. - then, no, you don't know anything about it - the same as me and the rest of us.

BTW - A lot of players have their signing on fees split so they get a portion every year. These will have taken a chunk out of our budget. And that unless a player requests to leave, either his contract has to be honoured or an agreement reached with the player. So shipping players out on free transfers is not an option. And the type of clubs that would take Jones on loan would not be able to afford his full wages so that is no real option.
