Again the perjorative - 'pack him off', 'kicking the can down the road'. Yet again you are describing a Locadia type loan, not a White/Sanchez/Longman/Richards type loan - a different animal altogether.

I am not - and I don't think anybody else is either - recommending a Locadia type loan for Connolly.
Whilst I'm saying, as I see it, that's exactly what it is.

As you said on the other thread, he is a PL player, he has had that experience.
I agree with you hindsight does suggest mistakes have been, on all sides.

What I'm saying is dress it up all you want I just don't see any benefit in loaning a Premier League goal scorer down to League 1, esp if you're questioning his mentality.

Connolly has already had the White/Sanchez/Longman/Richards type loan with his short stint at Luton.
I just can't see him taking to the move, knuckling down, getting his focus right and returning the player he wants to be.

If IF the club were more adept at buying strikers we may well have spent last season demanding Connolly's loan to Swansea was cut short and he replaced everyone we had!

Again, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Mr Bloom has (much to my surprise) said 'f**k this 16th bollox, I want us up the table'.
To me that suggests a new striker.

Welbz stays
Maupz stays.

There's no way the club are going into next season with those 3, all the time Welbz is one of them.
So we're down to 1 from 4.

Connolly
Andone
Locadia
Tau - to a lesser extent.

Personally I'd keep Andone, sell Connolly, marry Locadia - sorry wrong game - offload Locadia & Tau.

But the smart move for the club would be keeping Connolly (he's the value) and offloading the others.

Blackburn are asking to much money for a player in the last year of his contract. Teams are interested but not in the price being quoted.

How many of those were sub appearances ? or playing on the left ?...

Im not saying a loan to a champ side would not be a good idea if Mr Potter thinks it is, but i certainly wont be sad if he is in our squad next season each match day

I won’t be sad, but it’s definitely a position where we could find an upgrade.

I'd agree with you if he was a centre back.

Every time someone knocks on my front door I naturally assume it's the Albion recruiting me as #TheNextGlennMurray

Yes, the answer to all our problems is a striker known for having a terrible attitude who scored 1 goal last season.

Out of all the boring WUMs on here, I think you might actually be the worst.

"Connolly has already had the White/Sanchez/Longman/Richards type loan with his short stint at Luton." Geez! What bollox!

Absolutely not even remotely comparable! Two appearances - yes, two, just TWO appearances - and one of those was for just twenty minutes as a substitute! It was so insignificant a loan I wouldn't be surprised if even he can't remember ever having gone there!

He was put on that long and proven path.
Then it was decided to take him off that path and put him in the EPL starting team/squad.
He even had 15 minutes of fame followed by some subsequent success.

As I keep saying I just don't agree that he'll take to going backwards in order to hopefully go forwards for the 22/23 season.

I completely understand the rational in what you and many others are saying.
It would make complete sense in a 'one size fits all' world, I just don't see it making sense for Connolly taking into account what (albeit very little fact) we know about him.

It also doesn't make a great deal of sense for the club, unless GPott is saying 'he needs some time away from the EPL' which again seems a little out of character.

And finally - why have you only taken issue with that one sentence?

No. Poor technique, not Premier League level.

Also his lifestyle is a problem. When Potter arrived at Swansea he had a long talk with Oli (according to Oli himself) about lifestyle, how it is important to get the right amount of sleep and eating correctly etc. It seemed to work for a while but soon enough there was plenty of people playing Fortnite with Oli in the middle of the night and pictures of him partying when he perhaps shouldnt have. When he missed several games due to illnesses (colds) GP openly said in press conferences that it may be down to Olis lifestyle and that it would be something they had to work with. Things could have changed since, who knows, but I dont think GP would be prepared to take him on again. He is not that good anyway.

Its too bad because he is a fantastic character, very fun and clever, but at 25 you need to have professional lifestyle to have a professional career. Its understandable that younger players make some dumb shit on and off the pitch but at some point the ship sails.

If he just keeps going backwards like he did in 2020-21 there won't be much of a 2022-23 season for him! I quite agree with what you think he won't like, or won't take kindly to; quite likely he'd be furious! It's not a question of what he likes though, really.
As I see it, the alternatives are a year loan to a lower league club now, with a chance to try his hand in the PL next season, or sit around here, going further and further down the pecking order until he signs permanently for a lower league club when his contract here runs out. Then he could eventually turn out to be the next Jordan Maguire-Drew (he was also a bit of a wonderkid once).
I just don't see your alternative - just staying here and getting better - as a goer. The evidence of the last (almost) two years is that it isn't working.

Looking through this thread, there aren't too many obvious 'correct solutions.

Perhaps Edouard would be a better solution but no way at anywhere near £20m. (Celtic tend to specialise in overvaluations). Whilst we are at it look at Morelos at Rangers who has also been scoring some stunning goals in Europa League. He was used differently last season and contributed much more than just goals.

Either way better, IMHO, to go for a striker with experience at a decent level rather than trusting to luck that a League 1/2 striker will do the business although the Peterborough striker (Clark Harris) may be the exception to the rule.

Your outlook is very negative.
Mine is pretty negative.

I'm in no way convinced he'll kick on this season.
But of all the options available I do still think he has the best chance and, obviously Im fully aware of the fact you disagree (which is cool), I think dropping him down is basically the Locadia option.

Still we'll have a good idea in a months time and will know for sure in 10 (ish) months time.

I just don't see Connolly accepting the step backwards in order to move forwards.

One factor at play here is his international future. It is essential to be playing in a top league if you want to play for the likes of England, Spain, Belgium but not essential for the likes of the Republic of Ireland or Wales.

I think a Championship club like a Swansea, Cardiff or Forest would be a great fit for Connolly. He needs to learn his craft by playing regularly.

Yes, we'll certainly see in a few months time. One thing though - I'm not being negative about him - I think he's potentially a very good striker who's hit the rocks at the moment, which is why I'd like to send him, kicking and screaming if necessary, away from the bright lights of Brighton to somewhere he can concentrate on re-learning his trade, in an environment where success will be relatively easier because of poorer defenders.
No guarantees, of course - if he sulks and doesn't knuckle down, whether on loan or staying here on the fringes of the squad as 4th. or 5th. striker, he'll finish up a lower league player anyway (if he's lucky).

As said that should have been his path through to last season.
Hindsight says it would have been the right call.
Nobody was saying it was the right call 18 months ago.

I just can't put the genie back in the bottle.

Hi Swanny.

You misunderstood what I was saying.

All I was saying is GP is NOT averse to playing a big number 9 (I was backing up my assertion that I would love us to sign Muzza 2).

The problem is some posters seem to think GP won’t play a traditional CF, but I assert he certainly would and repeatedly did (in OMB). I certainly don’t want us to sign OMB, so that much we agree on.

Give it another week, he'll be insisting we sign Andy Carroll or we'll definitely go down.

Ah ok, then I misunderstood it. I agree with this, he has used big numbers 9s more often than not throughout the years.
