Albion manager Mark McGhee and his backroom staff have launched another hectic round of scouting missions after missing out on one striker and cooling their interest in another.

The transfer window closes in a fortnight and McGhee is still desperate to add firepower to his relegation-threatened squad, despite Saturday's 2-1 home win over Leeds.

The Seagulls have lost out to Derby in their bid to sign former Polish international front man Marcin Zewlakow.

The 29-year-old from Metz, the French club Albion signed winger Alex Frutos from, played in a practice match for Derby yesterday against Port Vale.

McGhee, who misses tonight's FA Youth Cup clash against Chelsea at Withdean because of the striker search, said: "That's the problem we have got. When somebody like him is faced with a choice between Derby and ourselves he'll choose Derby."

The British Isles forward interesting Albion failed to impress coach Dean White when he watched him in action at the weekend, while the Seagulls have been priced out of a move for another potential target from the lower divisions.

The chances of former loan keeper Wayne Henderson rejoining Albion permanently from Aston Villa are also decreasing by the day.

The offer made to Henderson is final and McGhee is less concerned about the goalkeeping situation now after Michel Kuipers' return to top form in the Reserves and against Leeds and Flo Chaigneau's recent appearances against Southampton and Coventry.

"We've done all we can," McGhee said. "We're not doing anything else. I haven't heard from his agent now for I don't know how many days."

Meanwhile, Albion goalkeeping prospect Richard Martin is due to train with Everton this week. The Argus first revealed Everton's interest in the 18-year-old last month.

Seb Carole had a trial with Southampton before coming to us so it is possible Derby could reject Zewlakow.
Only a slight possibility though.

Leon Knight, scored a hat-trick on his debut but has done nothing since

He is not on a pro contract and has not represented England so I doubt we will get much.

Neither was Gareth Barry.

What did we get awarded for him? (awarded not the lower amount Knight negotiated.)

It is more than likely to be down to appearances anyway, and keepers are less likely to make appearances then someone as versatile as Gareth Barry.

In the end we got 1.25 million for Barry and Standing, a good bit of business by DK at the time. Martin is a first year pro andhas been called up to England youth squads. A fee will need to be agreed up front for him, I'd guess 200k up front + potential up to a million with sell on.

Think we've missed out on the bloke. This is from the local rag up there.

Polish international striker Marcin Zewlakow is set to train with Derby County's first team this week after impressing in a behind-closed-doors match.

He played 90 minutes as a triallist in yesterday's 2-0 defeat by Port Vale at Moor Farm and the 29-year-old caught manager Phil Brown's eye.

Zewlakow plays for Metz in France but his 13 appearances this season contain only four starts.

His previous clubs include Wisla Krakow and Belgian outfits Excelsior Mouscron and SK Beveren.

Zewlakow, whose agent is ex-Rams striker Mikkel Beck, has been capped by Poland and played in the 2002 World Cup finals along with his brother, defender Michal.

Grzegorz Rasiak was the last Polish forward to play for the Rams and was a big hit.

He arrived as a relatively unknown quantity and emerged as the club's leading scorer before being sold to Tottenham Hotspur.

Dont think were going to get anybody in, which is not good at all.

Lets hope Gary Hart suddenly turns into a ten goal striker!
