We did make an offer to Rougier

At work - probably
I kept trying to post this but my Mac kept crashing!!!

Either Coppell doesn't really rate Rougier that much and only offered him a small amount, thinking that we could get an experienced player that would be better than nothing, especially on a low salary - or we really are totally and utterly, make no bones about it, completely BROKE - even with Zamora's money (yes I know it was already allocated).

Having said that bearing in mind McPhee's performances so far - I think I would prefer him to La Rouge anyway. When Henderson goes back, I think he should be given a chance.

From the sounds of it, it doesn't look like Sir Steve was going all out to get him. If the offer was poor, SC must have just viewed Rouge as someone to give us a bit of depth up front - a squad player at most - fair enough IMHO. If he doesn't get a club fairly soon, I imagine he'll jump at the chance of coming back.

He hope Brighton will change their mind!
Unlikely I think unless we find some money down the back of the sofa!
Dont need Rouge if we can get someone else in permenant.

As I said on another thread, Rougier was one of the most basic, and talentless dolts ever to wear the B&W stripes (and I include Mark Farrington in that). He had a few pieces of luck whilst with us, but relied upon bumping into people to make his impact. If it is true that we offered £500 a week, then that's about right for such a klutz.

Mr Coppell knows a good player when he sees one, and the converse is very true as well :bigwave:

Three comments

1) Rougier may well end up regretting turning us down, small beer
is better than no beer

2) Henderson appears to have no intention of staying after his loan period

Quote:

I spoke to a couple of other clubs but I've been told a lot about Steve Coppell.

"Just having his name put towards me meant I was very interested in coming here and playing under him. I spoke to Steve Sidwell who was here not long ago. He told me the gaffer is very enthusiastic and I like that. Hopefully I can learn a lot from my short period here

3) McPhee won't get a better chance to make his mark whilst we
have got a loan player who is cup-tied and whilst he is being used
as a late sub in league games. Hope he makes it.

Someone to give us a laugh more like.

He's like a black Norman Wisdom-only thing missing is the cap!

He is unlikely to find another club simply because he is crap-if he was anyway close to being half decent he'd be employed by now.

Totally agree... IBASIMW - If you look in the Oxford English Dictionary for the word oaf or bufoon, you'll see a picture of Mr Rougier, or the sh*t Akinbiyi as I like to think of him.

Bozza,

If we are short of 'muscle' to glare at the fans who stand on the running track during matches, then perhaps there's a role for him at Withdean. Get him a nice flourescent orange jacket and he'd be in his element.

Other than that he can go boil his head for all I care...

If he was offered 500 pounds a week then thats plenty for a normal person to support a family expecially if his wife works as well. BLimey what does he want to do put his kid in designer gear.

I've got friends who earn half that and are supporting a family, all be it a struggle but are doing so.

He's just money grabbing, we don't want him if thats the case,

So why was the offer to Rouge never disclosed by the albion? They told us about the Kanchelskis offer, but it was Rouge himself who has let the cat out of the bag on his offer.
Interesting.

Hmmm. The 'Rougier is a good player we should sign him' lobby are conspicuious by their absence on this thread.

Papa and Brian speak the truth. Re-signing Rougier would be like re-signing Jeff Minton. Every donkey has his day and he's had his.

Brovian - to include Jeff (The Pirate) Minton in the same sentence as Rougier is an insult to Mr Minton's memory. Please refrain from such behaviour. As I said before Rougier is in a class of his own when it comes to skill-less nincompoops.

dont diss Jeff! He was in the 1998-99 Division 3 team of the year

Exactly! He was a good player but he's part of our past. Rougier, more by luck than judgement, made a useful contribution when he was here. Let's leave it at that and try to keep his reputation intact.

he might not be very talented, but he does give us physical abilities, i suppose thats not much good if he dont score.Dont ever sign a player like that unless it is loan or short term contract, it is just to much of a gamble.

I agree he's not a man up to the team over the course of a whole season, but I think you're all being a bit harsh on a bloke who liked the club, tried his hardest and contributed, at a vital time, goals that won points for us.

He's basically not very good, but anybody who puts on the stripes and gives 100% is alright in my book. Let's not put the boot in too hard, shall we? There's a slim chance he may end up here anyway, as a squad player. Coming off the bench in short bursts, I think his sort of bustling, don't-really -know-what-I'm-doing-but-I'm-going-to-get-my-head-down-and-go-at-goal style may unsettle people.
