We did make an offer to Rougier

Papa: Yes I realise it could be misconstrued! It was the wrong example, perhaps I should have said Scott Ramsey.

I agree he's not a man up to the team over the course of a whole season, but I think you're all being a bit harsh on a bloke who liked the club, tried his hardest and contributed, at a vital time, goals that won points for us.

He's basically not very good, but anybody who puts on the stripes and gives 100% is alright in my book. Let's not put the boot in too hard, shall we? There's a slim chance he may end up here anyway, as a squad player. Coming off the bench in short bursts, I think his sort of bustling, don't-really -know-what-I'm-doing-but-I'm-going-to-get-my-head-down-and-go-at-goal style may unsettle people.

We have a few of those type of players already so why do we need another 'basically not very good' player? A few of the yougsters would give 100% and run around like headless chickens for a lot less per week.

I'd rather see the money used on somebody who adds something to the squad other than 'don't really know what I'm doing'. May be a bit harsh but there's alot better out there looking for work and the longer they go without work the more readily they'll take lower wages.

I agree with you Brian - given the choice I wouldn't sign him. But Coppell must have seen something in him to make any kind of offer, and everybody seems to be backing his judgement of players don't they?

I just wanted to defend his commitment, not his talent - thought some of the criticism was a bit harsh.

2) Henderson appears to have no intention of staying after his loan period

I spoke to a couple of other clubs but I've been told a lot about Steve Coppell.

"Just having his name put towards me meant I was very interested in coming here and playing under him. I spoke to Steve Sidwell who was here not long ago. He told me the gaffer is very enthusiastic and I like that. Hopefully I can learn a lot from my short period here

it.

To be fair, I don't think Reading want Henderson to leave and won't let him. They really rate him and see a loan for him as a quick way of gettin him league experience whilst he does not feature in their present plans.

So its hadly rocket science to work out that hios time with us will be fairly short.

But then strange things happen in football. Bristol Rovers were adamant that they did not want to et Zamora when he returned after his loan period,,,,,,,and look where he ended up.

32 last week, maybe his age had something to do with Coppells offer, Rougier obviously wants a decent wage in his latter years for his family and future, we could'nt offer him that as he's probably got 2 years at most left?

Seems like he's wanted to sign all along for us though which is good to see, maybe if Knight & Henderson both go back to their clubs then SC will puit in an improved offer....who knows!

It may be a decent wage Rougier wants, but what's he getting at the moment? Absolutely f*** all! I very much doubt any club will be spending high wages on him, since a 1st Division club is highly unlikely to be interested and most of the Division 2 sides have wage budgets less than ours.
