The roads in hove are sheet ice. Cars sliding ever where. Stay at home if in hove. Why have the council not gritted?

Why indeed? They are a bunch of lazy sods. Some elderly people are too scared to leave their home for fear of falling and yet our money grabbing council sits on its hands doing bugger all (seemingly). Is it really so difficult to get some gritter lorries out?

I blame the climate conference.
It's even snowing in the north & raining here on the southern coast & bloody cold.

Hang on, it's December isn't it? Oh that'll be it!

For the first time ever, I've had a taxi refuse to go to our road as he thought the roads were dangerous. It's strange that the milkman has got through every day of the snow, my Amazon order turned up on Saturday and that I saw an Asda lorry delivering to next door yesterday. It's a bit slippery out but it's not that bad.

I live up Saunders park view and the hill that leads up to it is a right bugger in the ice, we parked the car down the bottom of the hill on Friday and had to go out yesterday so to get the car back up the road I had to go to Saunders park sandpit with a f***ing dustpan and brush, shovel it into a black bag and spread it on the road myself.:nono:

We rung the council and they said they cannot fill our grit bins/grit the roads because the grit is running low. :bla:

The posh bit
The council are quite happy to take money from pay and display and will not maintain the roads in the winter.
they also throw money at 'cultural' events - pride etc but will not grit our effing roads, which is for the saftey of everyone!!- it is not like they are caught unawares it is december and was forcast for a week before.

BN3 was an icerink this am, saw many cars sliding sideways and in trouble- they were not driving fast just trying to do their daily commute.

It's quite insane really: my road is a quiet residential road so hardly a bus route etc. But just ONE load of grit would have made a massive difference to being able at least to walk out of it, something that was essentially impossible yesterday - once the snow had cleared it was nothing but a sea of ice, like a glacier or something.

I'm no wimp when it comes to walking in the snow and ice (I thank growing up in German winters, when you get sub-zero temperatures for months on end, for that) nor am I really the complaining type but this really does seem just useless negligence by the council: it's not as if it wasn't forecast.

Exactly like mine except we're on the side of the steepest hill in Brighton and Hove.

Still as bad today

The fools across the road from me have spent the best part of an hour chipping the ice from the hill road. Great for their cars, bit crap for the people who have to walk along the pavement in about an hour when all of that ice they dumped on the pavement compacts and makes it even worse than it already was.

They should have got salt or grit, much easier, the only way to sort ot out once and for all.

Managed to get to HH today. The A23 / A27 was ok, but my heart was in my mouth driving through Cuckfield, trundling along at 10mph and still slithering around all over the shop. No evidence of any gritting having been done. I'm not looking forward to the drive home.

The council have done a very small amount of gritting but it seems very random. I have been out every day since it snowed and have seen a total of one small gritting van with a few council workers, spades in hand apathetically sprinkling a tiny amount of grit on St James st.

One of my lads lives up that way and we went to get his kids for babysitting yesterday. It was a total icerink. having to take them back later so i hope it's improved some.
