Hodgson set to join midfielder chase

West Bromwich Albion, 10:58, March 8, 2011 , | No Comments

West Bromwich Albion have been heavily linked with a summer swoop for Brighton's highly-rated midfielder Gary Dicker.

The 24-year-old Irishman has been an influential member of Seagulls' boss Gus Poyet's side this season with 32 appearances under his belt as they look on course for promotion to the Championship, sitting eight points clear of third-placed Huddersfield Town in the League One table.
However, as Dicker is out of contract this summer and has yet to pledge his longer term future to the Withdean Stadium outfit, he has attracted the interest of other clubs higher up the Football League ladder.
Championship promotion hopefuls Burnley and Nottingham Forest have already been credited with an interest in Dicker, but fresh reports claim Baggies chief Roy Hodgson could be set to join the race for his signature this summer.
And, if Hodgson can ensure the club remain in the Premier League this term, then he will no doubt be in the driving seat to land the player.

Yeah I realise that. Just wondering what his value would be if under contract.

And we could do a Harley deal, sell him and get him on loan til the end of the season if he really wanted to move on..

It will be awfull if we dont get anything for him. I read Gus' comments in the Argus re: Murray, Bridcut and Dicker. He says if it was him he wouldnt sign and he did the same whilst at Zaragoza. If we have serious ambitions i dont see why were not doing all we can to keep hold of these players!

I saw that article and had to read it twice, sounds a bit odd!

For all we know, Poyet and Bloom are doing everything they can to keep these players. Poyet says in his seagulls player interview that all of the "players and their families" know where they stand with regard to contracts for next season.

It's bollocks! It his agent trying to get him a better contract. I'm not even sure he would be good enough for us a level up nevermind one of these supposedly interested sides!

Maybe they've put it to them, go up and you'll be on hypothetically 5k a week, don't go up and we'll only be able to offer you 3k a week.

Thus it's a waiting game for both parties.

Yeah i agree, just seems like the sort of things you would say about players who you arent bothered about keeping hold of. It just seems strange to me. Gus seems very much the sort of manager who says it as it is, makes an offer, says take it or leave it and wont be held to ransom. Which i like, i just dont like the thought of losing Dicker!!

Silly old bat
Dicker's interview on Player makes it sound like he wants to stay. It's all a game to agents.

Sounds about right. There will be no shortage of player's agents already on the blower to Gus about their boy wanting to play for us next season.
