WBA after Dicker

Much as I like Dicker, I personally can't see him being good enough for the Championship anyway, let alone the Premiership - it's those little worrisome mistakes he keeps making. If the agent is willing to risk Dickers contract against Gus and his "don't muck me about" attitude, then more fool him.

If WBA are after Dicker, then that's who he'll be signing for. Don't believe it myself

I'm certainly not as worried this year as in previous years when players we would like to keep have been close to the end of their contracts or been linked with other clubs.

We are going to be a very attractive proposition next year (IF we go up) to players and with the 6 or 7 new players (Champ/Premier experience?) we will be getting, I can see us aiming for the top 10 of the championship.
Any player would be a fool to get off the Gus Bus! With the momentum we're gaining and the new stadium and money to spend, I'm tempted to back us to go up next year.

Calm down everyone - we could have just stuck to the other Dicker thread where someone had kindly posted this story yesterday rather than getting everyone to panic!?!?!

It's bollocks! It his agent trying to get him a better contract. I'm not even sure he would be good enough for us a level up nevermind one of these supposedly interested sides!
THIS. Spot on IMO

Its agents playing games. If WBA, Forest or anyone else was that interested in him, they'd have signed him by now. Don't forget all the players out of contract at the end of the season can sign pre-contracts with who they choose from January, and no one has yet. IF WBA wanted him, they'd have signed him. end of.

Dicker's an excellent player at this level and could probably do a job in the Championship, but he's far too slow to make an impact in the Premier League - where his skills would be nothing unusual. Anyone that went to Aston Villa in the Cup last season can testify to that.

So, the only way he's signing for West Brom is if they come down. In which case, with fingers crossed that we'll be in the same division, he may as well stay put.

At last a sensible quote to agree with!

And you don't think he's improved since the Aston Villa game 14 months ago?

I do. Quite a lot.

That is incorrect.

English based players can only be offered a contract 1 month before the expiry of their current contract.

A foreign based player can be offered a contract 6 months before the expiry. As many contracts expire on the 1st July then this makes January 1st normally a key date to sign foreign based players.

No they can't not unless he was to go abroad. English clubs can't speak to players at other English teams without that teams permission until much later on in the season

Can't believe there are people who don't think Dicker is Championship class. I don't think I've ever seen a Brighton midfielder with such vision and precision of passing.

If thats true I stand corrected, but my understanding of it was, you are allowed to speak to another club in Janaury, and sign a pre-contract (intent to sign a contract when your current contracts expires). I would say you can't sign a full contract until the end of the season, as that would be against league rules, but I always was under the impression you could sign a pre-contract and move to the new club at the end of your current deal ie the summer. But if thats not the case then fair play. It does seem a bit harsh, if your current club dont want you, they only have to give you a months notice of not offering you a new deal. In emplyment law, I'd have thought you'd be intitled to sort your next job out if your current contract is for a set period of time.

Still think its agents talk though.

He is very good but we've seen throughout the season he's prone to a lapse in concentration and needlessly losing possession. Moving up a level, we're more likely to be punished when this happens. Having said that, he could improve next season and be fine. I have no doubts he'd be a good player to have in the squad. If we really want to push on next season though I think we might be looking for a better player.

Gotsmanov, Wilson, Case, Sidwell and thats without even thinking. Would have any of those over Dicker in a heartbeat.

Dicker could play in the Premier League. No question about that in my mind, the way he creates time for himself on the ball, the way he wins tackles and retains the ball in one movement and the way he strokes passes about, he has the ability to make it at the highest level. What people don't appreciate when evaluating a player, in my opinion, is the quality of player around him. I think if you put him in the West Brom midfield with players at a similar level, he would flourish rather than drown.

Consistency is what tells the premier league players apart.

Dicker should be OK in Championship , no chance premier at the moment

Risky move joining WBA as both them and us could be in the Championship in 5 months time, and having a league title on your CV does look good.

You have to expect at least one big player will be off between now and the start of next season. Even Leeds had to sell Fabian Delph to Villa, and Leeds are a bigger club than us.
