Apparently a clever ploy to get round FFP. As coaches wages are not counted so half as a coach, half as a player. Mel Morris is a clever chap isn't he

If it comes to it, I suspect the FA would look through this, given Morris' statement that "First and foremost, Wayne is joining us as a player but he will also have coaching responsibilities too".

Nothing to do with the FA... what can they do anyway? The rules of FA are the rules... same as Mel Morris moving Pride Park into a separate company and rents back to Derby for a nominal value (?)

Isn't that we we effectively do with the Amex and TB?

I got a bit upset when I saw Wayne Rooney was leaving DC United until I noticed he will play to the end of the season. I'm traveling to Washington on 11 August to see LA Galaxy against DC United at Audi Field in DC.

In an interesting move just before their match on Sunday that I'll be attending DC United have added Emmanuel Boateng from Galaxy. He certainly will have knowledge of the opponent.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...e-emmanuel-boateng-la-galaxy-allocation-money

D.C. United have acquired midfielder Emmanuel Boateng from the LA Galaxy in exchange for $250,000 Targeted Allocation Money, the clubs announced Wednesday.

Boateng, 25, has made 108 appearances across four seasons with the Galaxy, including 21 this season.

"Adding Emmanuel gives us another dynamic option from wide areas," United GM and VP of Soccer Operations Dave Kasper said in a club statement. "His ability to stretch the field and get behind the opponent's defensive line will give us an additional attacking threat as we enter the final stages of the regular season."

The move adds to D.C.'s midfield depth while it opens more budget in L.A. as the Galaxy work to make room for Cristian Pavon, the Boca Juniors star the club are working to sign before the Secondary Transfer Window deadline closes Wednesday night.

“We want to thank Emmanuel for his contributions to the LA Galaxy during his time with the club,” Galaxy GM Dennis te Kloese said in a club statement. “We wish him the best of luck in his future.”

DC United (36 points, 9-9-7) is currently 4th in MLS Eastern Conference & Galaxy (37 points, 12-1-10) are 5th in Western Conference. Both will be in MLS playoffs.

Rooney should just go **** himself and quit playing. He said he was ill and DNP. Derby needs your awful ****ed up coaching now, Wayne.

The Dc United / Galaxy match was exciting. Ibrahimovich didn't do much but some younger guys played well. It still wasn't the same without Rooney facing Ibrahimovich.

I know it sounds like it's a ploy to get round FFP, but when has the role of Player/Manager ever worked? especially in the higher leagues.

Kenny Dalglish didn't do badly.

Anyway, Rooney isn't going there as player/manager. Player and on the coaching staff is very different.

Can he take the match off whenever he wants and **** the fans that pay top money to see him play? He'll be good at that, the ****er!

Are Derby charging fans more now that Rooney has signed?

As player/coach it does enter FFP in the Championship, it is only below that level that it doesn't, so not so clever Mel Morris after all. And anyway, he's owned by a gambling company and not Derby County, so the sponsorship they have paid negates anything to do with FFP I would think?

Indeed. Derby are sponsored by 32RED. And hey - GUESS what squad number he's already assigned to have plastered across his back when he parachutes in. Yup.

This is a tawdry piece of commercialism, and pretty much sums up how fvcked up football has become. Hey kids - quick, start betting! Because look - Rooney the 32RED is in town.

Nationals outlast Cincy Reds tonight/last night. 7-6. Happy to see that after the Reds beat up on the Cubs.

I did run into an American politician that is well known in UK and is currently running for office. Any guesses?
