At this stage in their careers I would take Connolly over Rooney every day.

I can't see them going with Rooney as Manager unless he gets off to an absolute flyer in Caretaker Charge.

They have been sounding out the Agents of Potential new Managers for weeks now. There has bound to have been some of them who have shown an interest during those enquiries.

Big risk to give this to Rooney in the situation they are in. Especially as the club is up for sale too. Relegation to L1 would be an absolute disaster for a club the size of Derby.

Wazza huge favourite for the gig, from what I understand the new owners are willing to put in money to Derby which will make the likes of Chelsea and Tottingham seem like small change down the back if the sofa

I don’t see what’s funny, Big Sam would be a good appointment for Derby and where they are right now.

Sexy football? No. But he’s done a good job everywhere he’s been arguably.

He’ll have Derby mid table next year, and give Rooney and Rosenior more coaching experience in the meantime.

Big Sam would keep Derby up and that's about the best they're going to achieve this season. Relegation for a club of their size and with the incoming massive investment would be a disaster so Big Sam is the steady hand at the tiller they need as a stop gap until they go and get a big name next summer to get them promoted.

Doh, that would leave me feeling a little flat! That said, I've been writing about pretty much every managerial appointment since the dawn of time. The last appointment I was pretty disappointed about was Jim Smith....

General reaction from Derby fans doesn’t seem to be overly positive. Seems Fat Little Sammy is likely to come as part of the deal as well.......

Steve Mclaren at 10/1. There can't be many managers left can there? Perhaps time to give Billy Davies another go

George Burley said he'd welcome the opportunity to speak to Derby.
