Most fullbacks are rarely noticed let alone get their own thread!

He is one hell of a player and would be worthy of a player of the season nomination. For a loan player to play as well as he has deserves a lot of credit.

I hope we can get him on a permanent deal. Happiness must surely rank high up in his priorities now that he probably is financially secure for life.

I think we currently have THREE players who could get into my all time Albion XI in Tomasz, Bridders and Bridge. If it was for ability alone I would add Vicente to that list

Kuszczak

Bridge Lawrenson Foster Gregory

Gotsmanov Horton Bridcutt

Ward Robinson Zamora

Gregory over Gary Stevens ? Interesting even though GS was admitedly primarily a centre half. Too many upfront for me with Zamara having to make way to give us another wide man in midfield. Who knows maybe Buckley in a year or two.

Surely you have not edited Byrne............... may you burn!

I would have agreed with your original team apart from Gotsmanov as i did not see him play a lot.

What a team.

Always fun to debate who is or was the best ever players to have graced the stripes but is there any doubt that Wayne Bridge is by far and away the best left back we have ever had at this club ?
Ok this is the old league 2 but cannot see Graham Pierce or Gary Williams getting the nod over this lad.

Definitely, I can see why he has played at the top. His runs, his passes, brilliant. Add upson as well.

Every now and again I sit there watching us and have to pinch myself over several factors which have now become the 'norm'.

1 - Our stadium is just bloody ridiculous. I have the urge often to just shout out "seriously. LOOK at this place! LOOK!"
2 - Gus POYET is our manager. Flairstronimical
3 - We have the last England World Cup goalscorer as our centre back.
4 - We have a former England, Chelsea and Man City left back storming down the wing.
5 - We have VICENTE plodding along the touchline. VICENTE
6 - We have a champions league and Premier League winning (technically) goalkeeper. Madness.
7 - We have 2 players who were playing regularly in La Liga before moving here (Spanish D and Bruno)
8 - Our RESERVE right back is Calderon.
9 - We can rest a mega money striker and our 'reject' scores 2 lovely finishes.
10 - Orlandi can do a nutmeg just for a laugh
11 - We have LUA LUA as a SUB. One of the best impact subs I've seen at this standard. Seriously. Bring him on and he will do SOMETHING. Thats a given.

Ok. I've rambled. Wayne Bridge + 7 goals + The Amex in the sun has triggered me.

You'd play our best ever left back at right back? Are you Mickey Adams in disguise?

Stevens for Foster in that defence

Congratulations to Wayne, our only player in the Championship 'team of the season'...marvellously talented, we're so lucky to have see him in the Stripes

Jimmy Langley? My dad always said he was the best player ever to play for the club until mark Lawrenson came along

See my avatar. Without doubt the best left back to play for us, the original attacking, overlapping fullback. Jimmy was with us I think for 4 seasons. Captained the club, represented Div 3 South, and England B international. Transferred to Fulham, and won 4 full caps. Always the greatest Albion player I have seen, but also have to agree about Lawrenson.

he's probably the 3rd best english left back....can't think of anyone who runs him close and i still think he'd be first choice at most premier league clubs now that he's got that "hunger" and fitness back

one of the best players i've ever seen at the club, and easily the best left back....it really is ridiculous that he plays for us

He is my hero, what a player:love:
As and when this squad gets broken up they'll be a hell of a lot of heartache.

Bridgey the best left back I've seen in my 42 years watching the Albion BUT I'm not old enough to have seen Jimmy Langley - he can be the only possible rival for the accolade.

WB, it's been a pleasure.
