Was there really no alternative to handing it all over to a gambler?

Yep it wont be long till you're ligging it up again pretending to be in the know lol

This is bizarre.

How come it is so many others - especially those who have never met me - think I am 'in the know' when I know I am not 'in the know' and have never said or implied I am 'in the know'?

Anything I do know is by doing exactly what anyone else could have done - asked the club. Nothing more, nothing less.

Ignore it, it's just some people trying to be funny. The same people should stick to reading Ernest's posts.

In London village.
I don't think anyone has any problems with the fact that he is footing the bill for Falmer. It's great news.

People's concerns are with who he is, how he intends to run the club, and what that means for the fans. These are legitimate questions.

Indeed. Bloom is putting in a vast sum of money which yo-yoing between the Championship and the Premiershite might just recoup but few very rich men do things out of the kindness of their hearts, so asking what is in it for him does not seem overly cynical to me.

That said it also seems clear that any other options were very limited and those with doubts over the funding of Falmer were on the right lines.

You're going to have to explain that one.

I've wanted the same as everyone else - information, openness, clarity and as far as possible honesty. Just because I haven't screamed on here every time when it doesn't materialise doesn't follow I am unquestioningly subservient. That would be utter horseshit.

Simster has written some utter fantasy-laden bollocks about me on another thread, and portslade seagull in the same thread is way off the mark with his sentiment as well.

Right now, I am just so happy that the...anorack supporters of the last few years can become a thing of the past.
What very, very weird thing to say: the people you're dismissing so patronisingly are vital to the club at Falmer, or you can bet your arse that Tony Bloom will want his money back tout de suite.

Right, so you would rather have potless Knight in charge, who keeps having to ask others to pay the bills? So what happens if noboby will? It was never a long-term business model for the Club.

Kind of you to let me know what I think. Can you please quote the bit where I said I'd rather have Knight in charge than Bloom? As far as I'm aware, all I've done is urge a note of caution rather than everybody popping champagne corks in celebration of a chairman who we do not know. I accept the change without rancour, it's the way of the game nowadays. God forbid anybody should undertake a slightly cooler appraisal of what may happen in future than the 'Are we the richest club on the south coast now?' crew.

Like a lot of people, I have my reservations about so much power now being in the hands of one man - no matter how laudable his motives appear at the moment.

However, what's the alternative? It seems to me that without Tony Bloom, Falmer wouldn't happen. Or at least would take so long to happen that the future of the club would be in serious jeopardy.

If it does all go tits up at some point, we know the club will always survive in some form and the worst that could probably happen is we'd end up playing at a bloody athletics track or something ;)

So.... we may as well put our faith in Mr B and look forward to a glorious future at the Bloom Bowl

Agreed.

It is only right that supporters ask pertinent questions of the club such as: is all this money now in the hands of the club? Can the funding be withdrawn at any time? What happens if Tony Bloom dies? What happens if his businesses collapse? etc etc etc.

Considering Albions recent past and the fact that other clubs in similar positions are now deep in trouble, it would be downright crazy if some supporters were not sceptical. The future of BAHAFC appears to be in the hands of one man, Brighton fan he may be, but that seems to me to be a rather precarious position.

Not strange at all. Yes, hopefully Falmer will be filled with all kind of people - and I mean all kinds, and not such a large majority of liberal mamby pamby patched-elbow twead jacket and anorak wearing supports that we have had over reasent years other than at big games. How may lads turn-up at Withdean week in week out, and go to the smaller away matches? Answer - not very many!

Football is a sport that is usually watched by all ages of people. From young children to the very old. Unfortunatley, over recent years the Albion's main supporters have become a bunch of boring people "of a certain age", and all the fun has gome out of watching them except for big matches.

What KNZ and Dandyman said. As I'll say until I'm blue (and white) in the face: if we have to have a spiv, far better that he's OUR spiv.

I know, the credit crunch is called that for a reason. But that doesn't mean that money can't be borrowed at the moment, but merely that it takes more time and effort to do so. Everyone seems to be assuming that it was literally impossible to borrow the money for Falmer but at least one person I've spoken to whose views I respect suggested that it was possible but tougher.

If so, it seems a big risk to me. I can't pretend to be particularly delighted about all this this morning.

I just can't believe these threads. Tony Bloom is a businessman, a much more succesful businessman than Dick Knight. Yes your shining Knight has gone, get over it. He was never the man to take us to the next stage, but Bloom is. All this gambler nonsense is just plain crap. Every entrepreneur is a gamber of sorts. But this man is a businessman first and foremost. Stop trying to muddy the waters of what is great news for all Albion fans.

is the correct reply
