The Argus reported the following:-

"Sussex Police launched a major investigation and spent several months investigating the claim before making the arrests yesterday morning."
That's bullshit.

Police have done f*** all, its come up on their list after a few months and they've finally got around to looking at it.

Do we live in a country that allows 6 sex attackers to roam free for 7 months before arresting them?

Its a f***ing farce, and there is more chance of Palarse and Brighton supporters having a love in at Selhurst next week, than these players being charged.

Major investigation? My arse.

ARGUS NOW TWEETING "ELPHICK ELIMINATED FROM ENQUIRIES"

maybe someone noticed after several months of detailed investigation that he was on crutches in July!

Serious question - If I accuse someone of sexual assualt do the police immediately arrest them or wait until they have evidence?
No thery don't. Its common for them to wait months and months.

I'd be intrested to know the charge rate for people that are arrested 6 months after the event.

I bet it's in the very low single figure %

I bet the convition rate is almost zero.

In my opinion, the police are taking this with a pinch of salt, and are going through the motions. If it was a serious offense, they would have arrested the players within hours or days. Why are they going to let sex offenders wonder around for 6 months. It will drag on for months, and then no charges will be brought.

No - Big fat no for the way they did it with pic of AMEX and club badge by every players' name in BOLD. Joke. f*** off Argus.

Totally agree.

When I bought the Argus today, I had to buy a porno mag to put it in to save my embarrassement.

No, innocent ( as proven by at least ONE already ) until proven guilty. Shocking when this happens, some people only see, or choose to see, the first headline and don't bother or don't hear some months later that they all, or some of them, have no case to answer.

But he hasn't.

They reported that he was arrested - true. He's been ruled out of the investigation within a day, his name could't be clearer, and we'll have to wait for tomorrow's Argus to find out but I would hope and expect that will be made clear.

It's not prefect to have the players named but lets be honest we all probably would have known sooner or later anyway (probably sooner) but if it was not confirmed the names would be open to dangerous speculation, there was at least one tweet yesterday naming Noone and Hall, obviously totally wrong and whoever did that could potentially be in trouble but if the names aren't confirmed then it is going to hang over half the squad in that way.

I agree that the presentation of it was strange, with the club badge all over it and a picture of the stadium, but people are talking about a trial by media etc. It's hardly Stephen Lawrence is it. All we know is who was arrested.

Round the back, by the bins.
They were right to print but very wrong in the way they did it.

Tommy's name is still on display in every newsagents in Sussex even though it has nothing to do with him.

Yes, it's a fact. We're not living in North Korea even if nsc is.

Although the manner in which it was done is ludicrous. A small article inside the paper would have been suitable, then if at a later stage someone is found guilty of the crime should the big front page be appropriate.

These North korea comments are pure bonkers. Nobody is denying freedom of expression - but quite sensibly NSC has, (as have the BBC and the argus) have been careful to remove the potential for speculation that could lead the site owners into trouble.

If you want to walk up to a mate and speak to him on this basis or send him a letter. that's entirely up to you.

Some people may be trusted to comment sensibly - but others clearly aren't. And those who cant see the sense in this and keep commenting on about North korea are probably the very ones who couldn't be relied upon to think sensibly.

It's interesting that this has edged more towards no as the day as gone on. I think hindsight is great but the reality is we have Sussex full of newspapers with Tommy's name all over it being accused of a sexual assault. That is just wrong. Had it been done more subtley then I think you could justify it, but the headline is huge, their names are huge and it's just pathetic. The argus need to make it equally clear tomorrow that he has been completely cleared.

I think they were right given the suspicion will fall on many players the bigger issue is will they pehaps have a front page headline saying the player is now eliminated - somehow I doubt it

If the police launched a major investigation, why was this incident not publicised *anywhere* in July? Or August? Or September? Or October? Or November? Or December?

Brighton / Hove actually
All these names had to come out as soon as possible otherwise a cloud would be hanging over our club.
I am sure the club was warned of the Argus front page but because of its high immediate impact it gets it over with quickly. You can’t hide from it and it is probably a wise PR decision to let this go so we can focus on with our immediate objective, football.
