[Albion] Was it a penalty or did Everton get lucky?

Where Everton did get luck was Gordon not being booked for his foul on Lalana and then his dive and of course for the biggest deflected goal possible..

Stupid challenge and a pen because of it. However, so was Connolly's when he was clattered by Maguire. However with the officials these days, even the prats watching the videos, who knows. Rudiger flying through the air at Lamptey, Kane attempting to break Robertson's leg and Mane leading with the elbow, who knows what decisions will be made.

This - feels like they are making up the laws as they go along at the moment. They got the Mwepu foul correct IMO (it was 'back' rather than 'shoulder') - but agree Mane should have been sent off, and Rudiger on Wednesday. It's pretty desperate that after using VAR for so long they are still royally ****ing it up, game after game.

There is certainly an argument for a new level of punishment which is awarding a goal plus something further (a penalty, a free kick from the edge of the box and/or a card). Should only be used for professional fouls that stop a goal (blatant handball, fouling goalie, violent conduct, etc). That gives a degree of difference in consequences between the scenarios you mention

Doesn't need changing. A foul in the box is a penalty, has been for decades. Why mess with it. Every player knows the risks. What we should see is more players receiving bans for diving.
