Where Everton did get luck was Gordon not being booked for his foul on Lalana and then his dive and of course for the biggest deflected goal possible..
Stupid challenge and a pen because of it. However, so was Connolly's when he was clattered by Maguire. However with the officials these days, even the prats watching the videos, who knows. Rudiger flying through the air at Lamptey, Kane attempting to break Robertson's leg and Mane leading with the elbow, who knows what decisions will be made.
There is certainly an argument for a new level of punishment which is awarding a goal plus something further (a penalty, a free kick from the edge of the box and/or a card). Should only be used for professional fouls that stop a goal (blatant handball, fouling goalie, violent conduct, etc). That gives a degree of difference in consequences between the scenarios you mention
