[Albion] Was forcing Sanchez out the worst decision our club has made in years?

100% this.
Sod the penalties; Sanchez played 120 minutes in a cup semi final vs Manchester United at Wembley and kept a clean sheet.

de Zerbi sticks Steele in goal vs Everton at home and we’re one down in minutes (what a surprise) and go on to lose 1-5. Similarly calamitous keeping at Forest away, straight after the SF game. Beaten so easily at his near post - a recurring theme with Steele in goal.

I don’t blame Sanchez for telling de Zerbi to shove it (if that’s what he did). Fair play to him; I’d have done exactly the same tbh. No point sticking around where you’re not wanted or valued.
Then he hadn’t got the guts to fight for his place. I want to support players who want to play instead of throwing their toys out of the pram.
Maty Ryan also threw a strop the season before and some posters pointed out he did well by going to Arsenal. That didn’t last did it?

I’m being deliberately obtuse because some people will not accept that Sanchez turned up late for training and refused to be part of the team, instead of fighting for his place.
You’re not accepting that he was dropped though? You appear to be claiming that Sanchez and Steele were being rotated, which clearly wasn’t what was happening last season.

Whether the way he dealt with it after Everton is acceptable or not is a different discussion. But there’s no arguing of the fact that he was most definitely dropped after Fulham and that it wasn’t rotation.

Like I say, why bother fighting for a place at a club where the manager doesn’t want or rate you? Better to move on, for all concerned.

Yes. When you don't even get another chance after seeing your replacement concede 5 goals from 5 shots on target, then you know you're never getting your place back under the same manager. Same as when we all knew Dahoud was never playing for us again after he couldn't even make the squad over some U21s that had yet to play a minute of senior-level football.

Firstly, I don’t get the point you’re trying to make with the first paragraph. But statistically Steele’s been worse than Bart in almost every area.

Secondly, thanks for the patronising second paragraph. The one benefit of goalkeeping stats is that there isn’t that much room for interpretation. You’re either saving shots or you’re not. You’re either claiming crosses or you’re not. You’re either passing accurately into the right areas or you’re not. All historically goalkeeper focused stats, Steele performs poorly in. And yes, there is room to argue that’s down to certain styles, but in theory he’s in the team because his style is supposed to suit us. But every bit of data says it doesn’t, apart from his passing stats where he and Bart are basically identical.
The stats show Steele higher in the table than Bart not by much but statistically steels been the better

I believe it was Winston Churchill who said “The only statistics you can trust are those you falsified yourself”

He should show some character not sulk or refuse to play.

He didn't need to refuse to play, he wasn't playing. Anyway, this thread isn't about Sanchez refusing to play, this thread is about Sanchez being dropped in the first place and not being recalled. What did you think about that?
He was turning up late for training and had a bad attitude.

Of all the things to blame our struggles on this doesn’t even register. Sanchez was reasonable shot stopper, couldn't play football and had a massive error in him. Might not have even made Europe if he played last year. There’s a reason he’s already been benched at Chelsea. Steele has fallen off a cliff and Bart should have been playing for months. Thats much more of an issue than not having a bloke who couldn’t play the way we needed to.

Sometimes the lesson just doesn't get learned when things aren't going well.

Suddenly players long gone become superstars.

Sanchez was a bang average keeper who left under a cloud. It's a bit like when folk keep harping on about the 'old days' and forget all the negatives that came with them.

A bang average keeper who went to the world cup with Spain.

No, he was not a bang average keeper.

That's not really a satisfactory answer, but OK
Ha! That’s being kind tbh. It’s a complete joke of an answer. Slagging off someone’s character and professionalism as a truism and then saying, “I read it on NSC” is an interesting defence.

For what it is worth, I heard exactly the opposite from well-placed sources I trust. Plus other comments about the sudden departure of the entire medical team. But I would never repeat them on here unless I was 100% confident I could back them up.
