I can throw stones at the Nats building from here. I am closer to the action.
Info for anyone who has been stranded abroad. Virgin have stated that they will pay for accommodation up to three star standard, and a proportion of 4 and 5 star hotels so keep those receipts and make a claim when you get back. BA have not advertised the fact but they have also been paying for some passengers who went to the airport desks it seems. Small comfort possibly but it has to be worth getting proper receipts and claiming from whatever airline you are travelling with?
Why would they ?
That sounds odd.
as per Bozza's comments, cancelled flights go to the back of the queue and earliest I was likely to get out of HK direct back to UK was 29th as flights up to then were full or taken up with people who are down route from australia.
So I left HK and got a flight to New York yesterday (or may have been the day before - that date line thing is so confusing - it's like groundhog day) and am booked on a flight out of Boston this evening so I have a short hop to Boston this afternoon.
Fingers crossed I'll be back in UK tomorrow which means I get back for my youngest son's 1st birthday on Friday. I dont think I'll have ever been so glad to see the surly faced people that work at heathrow or those yellow and black signs.
I agree but I work in travel and have it in writing from them. BA have just this am come out and said they will provide hotel vouchers...on the day the flight ban is lifted

Quick question: I've got someone coming to stay who's due to fly from the States to Heathrow next Thursday. Might their booking be altered by the airline in order that they can clear this backlog of people who've been stuck abroad for weeks etc?
Nope. The 'backlog' will fill any empty seats on those existing services around those who are already booked to fly.
