fromn what i have heard virgo was poor today

he was worse at derby, he played well for first 20 mins and then died off, very poor control and did win most headers but all to nothing. worked hard though.

this is what i dont understand, if knight works hard he is slated but when virgo does it adds to his so called legend status

he made a bad tackle, but was no worse than Don hutchinsons who got booked

Absolutely. Hutchison went for Harding with no intent of getting the ball at all. One of those fouls you could see coming a few seconds before it happened.

Virgo's challenge was rash and dreadful, but if the ref was consistent it would have been a yellow. Mullins punch up had more to do with them being narked at losing to 'little' Brighton, and it 'won' them the sending off.

Sorry, that's not true.

His movement was once again excellent, he dragged the West Ham defence this way and that and allowed space for Claridge to operate.

The way we play is built around Virgo - McGhee explains this in the Crewe programme.

The record is Virgs up front: Played 13, won 6, drawn 3, lost 4
Virgs not up front: Played 6, won ZERO, drawn 1, lost 5

His touch is fine and he interpassed excellently with his midfield.

But the sending off was bloody dumb - poor discipline.

Nothing to do with the tackle - all about the afters.

Mullins was obviously to blame for reacting, but Virgs joined in. It escalated and that's automatic red cards for both.

Their idoicy I'm sure helped provoke the public order problems in the crowd too. Virgs deserves his suspension, and we will miss him a lot, hopefully Claridge can fill in for him *prays*

Not yesterday it wasn't - he was sending it flying all over the place, and nearly gave a goal away when he lost it through awful control and West Ham went through to miss one on one. Take nothing away from him, he's doing a good job overall, it just annoys me that he can do no wrong even when he makes mistakes, whereas Knight gets flak when he is playing better.

Quite harsh your having a laugh he went in late the ball was gone.

As it was for Hutchinson's yellow on Harding, you can't send Virgs off for the same thing. If anything, DH's was worse as he went in high as well.

Reacting or defending himself? The original tackle was only worth a yellow

Virgo's done brilliantly while he's been up front but he's still a centre half (he said so himself). If Claridge and Knight can get a good partnership going he can drop back into defence and it would give us an option to bring him forward in the last 15-20 miutes if we're losing (not that we ever lose, of course :D )

I agree there is a double standard with Knight. If Knight had got sent off in that manner yesterday, a lot of NSC would have been calling for him to be booted out of the club :glare:

Yes, Virgs does make mistakes but I would say you are expecting an impossible standard if you thought he was poor yesterday.

Look at our goal.

Virgs was tightly marked by Repka all afternoon but cleverly dragged him right over to the stand and then drew the dumb foul. This is a striker's instinct to gain free kicks in danger areas. This set piece gave us the victory.

Perhaps poor is too harsh - he worked hard as usual, but his limitations were shown up by good players. I'd keep him up there when available as it is, as he does a good job on the whole - I just got pissed off by McGhee's treatment of Knight.

As I recall it, Harding won the free-kick for the goal, but I may be mistaken.

Claridge and Knight gotta be 1st choice strike paring... Virgo long-overdue for a return to the defence... he is a CB...

bad tackle, definately warranted yellow, no argument there by anyone.

from the tv very harsh to bee sent off however the west ham player had to go as he reacted and would have been a brave ref at upton park to send the home player off and then only yellow the away player especially when everyone piled in afterwards

great to see a good pile up, always adds to the excitement

Don't think you can really blame Virgs for the red. He should have got a yellow for the tackle but thats it. What happened after was not his fault and he couldn't avoid it.

From what I saw it was all Mullins - but the ref did consult the linesman (excellent to see btw) so the chances of getting it rescinded are tiny.
