The arse end of Hangleton
mate, I dont agree with him except for the cleaning the strees bitt. After the garbage they have served up in 2009 then I want them all sweeping the streets for an hour after training every day. At least then the players might have done something decent in 2009 !

Fair point but there's a world of difference between the players doing some community service for the utter tripe they've served up recently and wishing the end of a players career and hoping the best he could get is sweeping the streets.

Can someone explain how a thid division player at BHA who could not get in the starting back four goot sold to Celtic as a defender because he scored a few goals when "stuck up front as a target man"?

I have to say the £1.5 Million transfer seemed very strange in valuation and have always suspected several people profited from it.

I suspect you are right...

Perhaps, as he was performing pretty well with a championship club at the time, He was considered a useful utility player, who would do what was asked quietly & efficiently.
A handy player to have at any club.

no mate i cant spell or type and there are often reasons for that and do you have a problem with that? In this little forum i rarely can be bothered to work at it but that does not alter what is said, so answer the question if you can of course - like

The story I heard (from a VERY reliable source) was that Strachan had just joined Celtic and the Chairman was EXTREMELY keen to send him a message that he could get some players in.

Strachan, however, was under instructions that there was a limit to his personal spending in the transfer market (£500,000, I think) and this could only be exceeded with the Chairman's personal approval.

Strachan then tried to buy Virgo, who he thought would be within his personal price limit, but the Albion weren't keen to sell. The fact that Virgo couldn't be bought reached the Chairman's ears and he immediately got on the case himself - just to keep his new manager happy. Further negotiations led to the Albion saying that we still weren't interested in selling. Only if silly money was available might there be a change of mind. Without consulting Strachan, the Celtic chairman decided to go for it ... and that's how the £1.5 million fee got to be agreed. Virgo only found out when the deal was fixed. Strachan was as surprised as Virgo was.

Because he left for more money and thought he was a better player than he really is, he was out of his depth going there and he knew it, but still went ahead with the transfer because of his wages. It went pair shaped and thought, I know, I'll go back to Brighton and everything will be hunky dory and it’ll kick start my career.
No Adam, you’ll be road sweeping!

I heard Ronnie Biggs and Goerge Graham had a better stories than that. Either smellly or complete stupidity by people who now nowt about football.

So what if it was smelly or bad business? It was great business for us.
Were you old enough to watch the albion back then? as Virgo was nowhere near as bad as you are trying to make out.

He was a regular in the back four when he wasn't playing up front in the Championship. Good business for the Albion as has already been said.
