Actually I agree with him. English people not breeding is going to have no impact on anything, other than the numbers of English people. That, and those who seem to want the human species to die off, have got a problem with perspective.

"English" breeding is already in decline and has halved since 2008.

Business travel however is pretty much toast. I travelled a great deal before COVID and tbh won’t be sad to see the back of it. With the exception of one six monthly meeting I can VC the rest.

In a sensible World, this situation would be a knife in the heart for the nonsense that is HS2 as millions of people realise that, with decent broadband, they don't need to travel for meetings anymore.

In the real World, the totally unnecessary, multi billion £ load of balls that NOBODY wants will go ahead. Because it's just a massive scam that will make some people very rich.

Spend half the HS2 money on internet connectivity, the other half on knocking down empty office buildings and building parks and social housing. Life would be much better for everyone. Except the people who get rich from building unnecessary office buildings and a massively overpriced train set.

listen sausage , you're getting way above yourself here , do you honestly think the UK is a major contributor to global warming...?? 67 million people on a little island in the northern hemisphere.....it is a widely known fact , outside sussex , that China is by far the biggest culprit contributing 30% of the total , USA 15% , india 9 % .........the entire EU 9% so your contribution is minuscule .......Childbirth well , you may be surprised I believe surprisingly it is the 3rd world who are pumping out the sprogs .....Africa is way above the average and Afghanistan and Iraq are right up there too niger and somalia head the charts with over 6 children ....on average per family......it's ok , you can chill out , it's not your fault.

Most recent numbers state that "the Arab world" is having over 3 kids whilst the EU is less than 2.The average for Africa is over 4

Can you refer me please to which post where I stated that the UK makes a significant contribution to global CO2?

I never said such a thing. Our contribution is minimal.

looks like i mistakenly understood you to be saying that having children was a major contributor to global emissions of greenhouse gasses.

Good idea. An allowance.

But anyone who choses to have a child or has had a child in the past loses 50% immediately.

The Greenest thing is to not have children and we need to reward people not to have many children

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/12/want-to-fight-climate-change-have-fewer-children

Edited IMO. Everyone should be allowed to have a child guilt free. But people need to be discouraged from having 3, 4, 5. Saw something about some Scottish guy that has 12. Made me feel sick. So irresponsible and selfish. I mean, how can you monitor this kind of thing without entering rather bleak and futurist discourse? But felt angry about it. We need to get past the attitude of “if they can afford to” and think more about if we can all afford to.

But your sentiments are right, IMO, as I say.

what on earth are you on about ......all cold hard facts i'm afraid.....and all available on line should you be inclined to search.

I’m not disputing the accuracy of your facts....I’m stating it’s whataboutery....and by your own admission you have also completely missed the poster’s point. Other than that, top post!

since we passed the amusing implication of no child policy, its worth going back to this to highlight its utter bollocks. the claimed number of 58t of CO2 per child per year doesnt match with the per captia number of ~5-6t CO2 person/year. obviously a child cannot be using 10x more CO2 than the average adult.

Friends of mine that work there have been told its the door or a permenant paycut, whilst being reminded how hard it is getting a job these days, lowlife approach by some managers it seems, but having done 12 years there that doesnrt surprise me...

My wife is Cabin Crew with VA. They were fully informed of what is happening before this was released to the news outlets yesterday. What you say your friends said they were told is absolutely not right but I am not going to go into the details of what they were actually told for obvious reasons. It may be a case of send three and fourpence and there may be elements of reality in what you say they were told but it is not that blunt, it is not that cold hearted and there are even proposals for those that do lose their jobs to be on a priority list to get their jobs back when/if things improve. Whether my wife will lose her job or not will not be known until the legally required consultation process has been completed If she does we will be affected adversly and upset, but, even then, surely it's better than losing the whole company and the affect that would have on the economy and all the individuals then out of a job?

Indeed.

The figure was calculated by totting up the emissions of the child and all their descendants, then dividing this total by the parent’s lifespan. Each parent was ascribed 50% of the child’s emissions, 25% of their grandchildren’s emissions and so on.

Eh?

It's complete crap. Like everything else the poster you quoted has written on here.

This is how it was arrived at. What’s the average lineage of a person? How many generations are there in a typical family? I presume this is also considered.

Yes I already posted that quote HT. It's total horseshit in other words. :lolol:

Nice to see this thread derailed in true NSC style.

For all those who seem to be celebrating the demise of Virgin Atlantic and Gatwick Airport, how about giving a thought for all those who have been told they will lose their jobs today. Then think about all the businesses that rely on VA and Gatwick who are also likely to lose their jobs.

This isn't just a Crawley thing either, many people commute to Gatwick for work and many of the supporting businesses are based around Sussex.

Also, some companies choose to be based within a certain radius of Gatwick to enable them access the airline network. If that is no longer an option, they may choose to move away from Sussex which then has further impact on our economy.

Agreed. Just bizarre to see people revel in something that is going to make life difficult for so many people in our local area.

OK, I'll stick my hands up as the person that probably derailed this thread the most for which I apologise ( although as you point out it is NSC style ). That said, I haven't seen anyone, even me, celebrating the demise of VA or Gatwick. As someone that's been made redundant 4 times I know full well the hardship, stress and worry it causes. I wish all those involved the best of luck in finding new jobs.

I work for BA Holidays so this whole situation is very worrying, at the moment there are no details of any redundancies as we've been told we are very lean already on numbers compared to other Travel Companies of the same size, plus the thinking is that BA will focus more on leisure routes which is where we come in. Most of the Company are on Furlough till end of June but I'm dreading receiving that email to say redundancies are needed.

I've started to look for other jobs, just to see what's out there and what I could apply for. Been there 18 years so will be heart breaking if I'm made redundant. Trying not to think about it but it's very difficult. It's just all so surreal when you think a few short months ago everything was fine and dandy :(

So sorry to hear of the Virgin job losses and those on here how are affected, I might be in the same boat very soon.

After this is over airlines will be completely in the driving seat

That FOC name change? Now £100 - there will be no GOGW anymore.

You want us to fly to Barbados? The fees doubled for the local government.

Less comp more monopoly.

What is GOGW?
