I love twiddling with hi fi stuff, moving things around, finding a different sound . . . . I'm always amazed how different things sound in different rooms.

As for vinyl, I was scared off picture discs as a kid when I bought house of fun by madness, played dreadfully, eccentric grooves and warped . . . I took it back and got a proper black one with a picture sleeve

I have a few coloured albums and they seem fine. I was given a couple of picture discs and agree they sound awful, I would only buy one now to add to a collection as a novelty, not to listen too.

I think the vinyl to make records is naturally clear so they have to colour it black, it is probably the same process with other one colour records. I am not sure about pictures discs.

The playing surface tends to be thinner so they can put the image between the two "sides" of the album. Anyone who lived through the golden age of flexidiscs will know how awful they sound! I did build up a hefty collection of these, mainly thanks to them commonly being cover mounted on magazines and music newspapers...

The cartridge is an Ortofon Night Club E.

I was going to guess at Ortofon, a neighbour DJ's a fair bit and has similar on his decks

1BTN late night bigness . . . I thought they looked frail but they happily survived us using them for a big street party all dayer, and we were all very refreshed by midnight

I like his video's he is not snobby about equipment. Some people have amazing set ups. I think these are sent in from people that subscribe to his channel

During the lockdown I dug out my old vinyls and have been playing them in alpha order - have now reached W and today played Who live at Leeds. Great album and the sleeve is packed with posters and stuff that my teenage kids found fascinating.

This is my favourite live album, I bought this version recently it sounds absolutely stunning, I also have an original pressing. Helps if your a fan of Genesis of course.

This is my favourite record, no only is it a great song but the sleeve open’s up with a time stamp in history. The map still has Yugoslavia and USSR on it.

Getting nerdy I have a few albums I’ve bought that are marked Porky in the runouts. This is the mark of the sound engineer George ‘Porky’ Peckham who cut the records.

I’ve got Deep Purple Made in Japan, AC/DC Let there be Rock.

As we're still on the subject of coloured vinyl. This was the first piece to join my collection. In fact, aside from that Binkbeats that I got recently, it's one of the few pieces of coloured vinyl I own I think. And I have no picture discs whatsoever.

Looks great but plays terribly. Had to get a black copy to listen to. Put me off buying more coloured vinyl.

Yep. I am the same. My speakers cost me $100 from Facebook market place and up grade from ones I got from a second hand store when I moved to Australia. That purchase also included a silver NAD amp that needs a clean up but always sounded amazing. On my ever growing list of projects.

I don't have much spare cash to spend on my system but mine does the job nicely for what I need.

When I first got into hifi, as a teenager and earning for the first time, my first set up was that Systemdek IIX I mentioned early, a pair of Mission 70's, a Nad tuner, and as you mention a Nad amp, the Nad 3020e integrated amp.

I remember I got the Nad amp as my older mate had the original Nad 3020. A bit of an entry level classic back in the day. I was desperate for one too but it had been discontinued and the 3020e had taken it's place. I never did like my 3020e as much as my mate's original 3020 though.

Some years later, one of my upgrades was to a pair of Monitor Audio floorstanding speakers. The R952/MD, which I bought 2nd hand. I still use those speakers today and they're still going strong In fact, when I recently moved from a power amp/ mixer (as pre) set up to a modern network amp, I decided I'd add in a subwoofer to compliment the Monitor Audio's. With not too much cash to splash, I opted for an Elac Debut S10, and I have to say it's been an absolute joy!, adding a nice little bit of bottom end weight in all the right places, without ever overpowering. I do love a bit of vintage hifi. But quite happy to pair it up with modern when need be.

I ended up getting a coloured vinyl buy mistake a couple of years ago. I ordered the remaster of Genesis ABACAB Of Amazon

This Is what should have arrived



But this turned up instead , I can kind of see how the mistake was made. Decided to keep it and order the Genesis Album again

This is an early 70's reissue . . . . Would love an original, but theyre aninvestment and a half.
