I love twiddling with hi fi stuff, moving things around, finding a different sound . . . . I'm always amazed how different things sound in different rooms.
As for vinyl, I was scared off picture discs as a kid when I bought house of fun by madness, played dreadfully, eccentric grooves and warped . . . I took it back and got a proper black one with a picture sleeve

I have a few coloured albums and they seem fine. I was given a couple of picture discs and agree they sound awful, I would only buy one now to add to a collection as a novelty, not to listen too.
I think the vinyl to make records is naturally clear so they have to colour it black, it is probably the same process with other one colour records. I am not sure about pictures discs.
