A question for those who can’t be arsed to go tonight.

At what stage of this competition would you start supporting the Albion? Quarter final, semi final, final? And similarly, how much should tickets cost for tonight’s match to win your support?

Accepted that those with long distances to travel might dodge this one on a school night.

I went to Bristol Rovers for the previous round, but I'm not going tonight.

Judge me as you see fit.

Judgement made! Must be a good reason to go to Bristol and not to the Amex.

Dazza’s post before yours sums it up for me.

Think I’d rather have a JCL there than a “can’t be arsed”. Talk about cherry picking your matches. I thought supporting a club was “all or nothing”

Nope.

It used to be. But as of now, I have anST and attend matches with my ST if not on holiday( I miss 5 home games this season)

After 46 years of following Albion home and away, I pick and chose now.

Sorry if it disappoints you.

The dull part of the south coast
If they’ve sold out on a nasty weather Wednesday evening for the early rounds of a Micky Mouse Cup a few hours travel away from Birmingham I can only conclude that they see this as a Cup Final

Disclaimer - I do not believe that they have anywhere near sold out that end of the ground

According to their official site they’ve sold all but a few of their allocation of 3,000+. I’m sure we’ll soon find out in a few hours time.

Used to live in Bristol so it was a good opportunity to spend a couple of days up there, have a night out during which the football was just time to sober up a bit.

My partner has a regular thing on Wednesday nights and the draw of this game was not sufficient for me to make her stay at home with childcare duties, so I could go out. If it was played last night, I probably (although not definitely) would have gone.

I don’t think I will bother at all with this comp...FA Cup maybe, but it depends again on who the manager wants to play. If the FA CUP games we play are away, I won’t go to them, but if we have a decent draw at home and we are nearing the sharp end where we will be playing our first team, then I will go

It could have been free tonight and I wouldn’t have gone as it doesn’t interest me. Your comment about my support is laughable btw!

I wonder how many people who can’t be arsed to go tonight are people that also complain about not having enough loyalty points to go on the decent away days. 15 points for tonight’s game !

Yeah, tuesdays is Pilates and Wednesday is Yin Yoga , so in order to be fit and flexible to play golf as regularly as I do, i need to do these, so mid weeks games are a real problem. Problem with getting old and stiffening up!!!

Not me, haven’t been away for three years since we got back to the top division so don’t moan about away tickets. Done my years of every game home and away all seasons in my yoof.

a galaxy far far away
When we played at Villa Park under Poyet (2010?) in the FA Cup it was the highlight of the season and we took, from memory, 6k fans.

When we were down in the dregs at Gillingham, some of us recalled the grumblings under Mike Bailey when we were only mid-table in the top division and wondered about the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (or some such).

I still struggle to understand why some fans don't want to be at the game tonight. That's not an invitation to list the usual excuses for each individual. It's an observation that in many ways, we remain far from being a 'big club' and that our support is 'soft'.

PG

Yes. We are far from a big club and we can't get huge attendances for cup games. I don't see that we should beat ourselves up over it.

Tonight's attendance won't look bad when compared with other clubs. Yesterday we saw for example 8900 at Watford. We're not twice the size of club as them.

We should look at ourselves as a growing club rather than a big one. We’ve spend most of our history in the 4th or 3rd division. We sacked off a generation of fans not so long ago and that will take time to put right. We’ve got probably 10K who go every week who would not class themselves as big Brighton fans and probably would say they support other clubs. We’re building the club in the right way to have a more solid support base in the future, but like I say, there’s not many clubs who can sell out a midweek league cup tie against a team in the same division.

Only 7 seasons in the 4th division. We are one of only 2 clubs in British football to have ever had a 30,000+ crowd in the 4th division.

I don’t think 10,000 two team supporters is accurate either.

I don’t think we are a big club, but we’re probably in the top 40.

One of the things that pissed me off on Wednesday (just after their third goal) was when Jack Grealish got fouled, he stayed down for about two minutes, making sure his hair was still immaculate before he was ready to carry on. No wonder he was booed when he came on. He's so vain. Beckham without the skill*

*As a Villa fan said on the train before kick-off, ever since that Birmingham tw@t hit him in March he was brilliant for the rest of last season. Still bottled the Tottenham move though.
