If they’ve sold out on a nasty weather Wednesday evening for the early rounds of a Micky Mouse Cup a few hours travel away from Birmingham I can only conclude that they see this as a Cup Final

Disclaimer - I do not believe that they have anywhere near sold out that end of the ground

Not far off. Villa are a big club

Think I’d rather have a JCL there than a “can’t be arsed”. Talk about cherry picking your matches. I thought supporting a club was “all or nothing”

Really!? Its a pointless game in a pointless cup, that the club are charging £15 pounds for with no transport levy and we have 1 fit striker.

Not suprised people are not interested. I cannot no matter how much ive tried to convince myself to go, be bothered.

Looking forward to this, surprised at the apathy towards it

£20 if you make a decision today, it seems.

Where is the logic in that? Surely its still a print at home ticket?

I think the idea is to encourage people to book ahead, so they have some idea of the attendance and can resource accordingly. If not most people would leave it to the day and the club might not be properly prepared.

How many tickets sold so far?

I entered the competition that Bozza posted …. didn't win …. certainly not paying for a ticket to see two reserve teams !

With Villa end heaving toinght after selling their allocation some time ago would be surprised if they allowed sales on the night with risk of a large presence of away supporters in the home end.

I know a group of Villains who are going in the home end.

I can't be naffed. I'd be more inclined to go if it was a team in a different league.

A few yea ago this marstch would have been the highlight of the week. How times change, it’s now a “can I be arsed” game

At Withdean rain was just par for the course at so many games, what was that high scoring night game we lost in the absolute pissing rain? Rochdale?

When we played at Villa Park under Poyet (2010?) in the FA Cup it was the highlight of the season and we took, from memory, 6k fans.

When we were down in the dregs at Gillingham, some of us recalled the grumblings under Mike Bailey when we were only mid-table in the top division and wondered about the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (or some such).

I still struggle to understand why some fans don't want to be at the game tonight. That's not an invitation to list the usual excuses for each individual. It's an observation that in many ways, we remain far from being a 'big club' and that our support is 'soft'.

A question for those who can’t be arsed to go tonight.

At what stage of this competition would you start supporting the Albion? Quarter final, semi final, final? And similarly, how much should tickets cost for tonight’s match to win your support?

Accepted that those with long distances to travel might dodge this one on a school night.

On one hand, a win would be important to the self-confidence and give fringe players more opportunities to play at a decent level.

On the other hand, Brighton does not have the squad to compete in "unenecessary" competitions like this.

On one hand, with a lot players injured you dont have many alternatives and might have to pick a stronger team than you'd optimally want to have a chance of getting a result, so maybe Potter should go with that.

On the other hand, Villa are more desperate for any kind of win in any competition, so if you field a strong team you not only risk getting your players tired; you also risk getting more injuries.

Not easy. Tricky game.

edit: This is also the wrong thread for these kinds of thoughts. Gonna blame myself not for reading the first post and OP for not bothering using a more narrow headline.

No coach service makes it too tight to get to so I'm out.

I like watching the 'squad' get a run out, and I'd still rather go to a game than not. £15 isn't bad when I usually pay a tenner to watch Isthmian SE league games. I'm in, going with a mate for a chat and not forgetting the LPs on offer too. All good.
