Villa ticket sales suspended!

http://www.seagulls.co.uk/page/Latest/0,,10433~1931587,00.html

Albion are expecting the away allocation for the FA Cup fourth round tie at Aston Villa a week on Saturday to sell out, although Gold, Blue and White members can still apply for tickets, although the club strongly advise fans to buy online at this time.

Young Seagulls may also apply, but must be accompanied by an adult Gold, Blue or White member, up to a maximum of three children per adult.

All postal or hand-delivered applications will be dealt with in strict date order, but those received by 5pm today are expected to be successful.

Postal applicants will receive notification, if successful, in the next few days, as all postal applications are processed.

Tickets will be despatched over the course of the next few days, with the bulk expected to be sent out by close of business on Saturday.

Please be patient and we politely ask that you do not telephone the ticket office to check on postal applications until next Tuesday at the earliest.

For supporters buying online, once logged in all users purchasing online are advised to confirm contact and address details are correct.

To do this click the update option in the Update Details section, even if all contact details are correct, as this enables the club to email users, including vital emails such as password reminders, ticket confirmations etc.

Having problems logging in?

During busy periods, it may take a little time to log into the system or process payment. Please be patient.

If you are experiencing Fan Number or password problems, the club has the following advice:

- Fans can find their Fan Number printed on their season-ticket or individual match tickets from this season (these start 5000, 6000 or 7000).

- Users can request a password reminder at the online system login screen using their Fan Number (Click the Forgotten Your Password? option).

- Please note users will only receive a password reminder if they have previously informed the ticket office of their email address.

- Those who do not receive a password reminder should then proceed to enter their Fan Number and in the password box enter their postcode in lower case with no spaces.

- Users are advised to confirm contact and address details are correct. To do this click the Update Details tab; users are also advised to change their password to something memorable.

- Supporters still experiencing problems purchasing online are advised to telephone the ticket office from 9.30am on 0845 4961901, who will assist in completing an online purchase.

NB: Tickets will NOT be sold over the phone, and please note phone lines are likely to be extremely busy so please be patient.

When the tie was first announced the club should have stated that the priority was at that date and that in the event of there being a surplus of tickets new white memebership would be entertained thus meaning that if somebody was already a member they would probably get a ticket. It could, of course, be that the club allowed new white members in the hope that the increase will be reflected when we open Falmer, we must remember we have lost a decade of supporters and they have to be replaced from somewhere.

For fear of being shot down - and this is open for debate as I have no strong views either way - shouldn't preference be given in the following priority;

1. Season Ticket Holders - as they put money into the club upfront and well in advance
2. Supporters who regularly buy tickets for home games - as they put money into the club
3. Supporters who attend away games only - as they put no money whatsoever into the club

Just a thought!

Have a read of this and it states clearly you can only buy via postal or on-line so I stand by what I said which as usual is ignored by everyone else.

I didn't ignore you. I didn't say you were wrong. And I didn't say the club hadn't said it wouldn't sell tickets over the counter. I did say by selling them over the counter today it wasn't a case of double standards. Because it wasn't.

As I say, I applaud the club for a strategy shift today by selling over the counter as it seems they did.

A week or so ago the club probably did not know when tickets would be arriving from Aston Villa. They knew they didn't want c6000 people queueing for tickets. They knew they'd made an investment in a new ticketing system that has been successfully deployed to far bigger clubs than ourselves, one that permits a high degree of automation and allows a self-service model to be used by fans.

Today, when the club did have tickets in hand and knowing there'd been issues with the new ticketing system a decision was made to give tickets directly to fans there and then. And let's be clear, we're talking a relatively small number of fans and tickets.

Regardless of what had been said that is so clearly the right thing to do. To not have done this would have been to take on the burden of getting tickets to those fans via the postal system, and the administration time and cost associated with that.

I'm sure lessons have been learned over the last few days and I'd imagine the club will be looking to speak to IRIS TALENT Sport in the very near future about the performance and capacity issues which have been experienced.

From the few posts I've read, you seemed to have turned (back into) a really whiny snivelling chap over the past few days, which is a shame.

So the point is the club have changed tack on what they announced which I suspect may annoy several people if they knew they could just go in and purchase over the counter.

The point is do as you advertise or else you leave yourself open to criticism which is precisely what they have done. Also another lesson to be learnt is close the option to join the membership system when doing this.

you must have magic eyes because i read it as "The club strongly advises that supporters apply online, wherever possible", it doesn't say that you CAN'T buy from the office and common sense would've indicated that you could

if the people who bothered to get into town this morning (it was f***ing horrible weather this morning by the way) all stayed at home and booked online then it would've led to further carnage, as the system clearly struggled as it was

can't see why there's any moaning- even if they "went back on their word" then it was probably for the greater good anyway

and those who "didn't realise" that you could buy in store could've always rang ahead to check:thumbsup:

...and I agree - membership entry should have been suspended until all current members could be satisfied with tickets.

mmmm.....

He has a point although the club may not have said so clearly enough.

Tickets were not for sale over the phone so from that, I'd take it that they wouldn't be available in the shop either.

Not being on the phone says to me that's it's being controlled by post or online because of demand and fairness.

I don't think that's an unreasonable assumption.

I was surprised to hear people could buy them over the counter today. Very surprised.

When I rang the club over something else it was made very clear to me when I asked about Villa tickets that the only way of purchase was via the internet.

They were effectively on "general sale" early, because all you needed to do was fill in a white membership form. With the cost of the tickets, no big deal.

I've no problem though, if it looks as if everyone who wants one gets one, but it was a little bit early to panic into selling them in the shop if that was the case.

The possibilities in terms of marketing are endless. Dump the Withdean wager, link it to the winning of membership points.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! This is an OUTRAGE! I like some of your ideas but this one is a step too far Clapham. We won't be able to shout "get that bloody board down/out the way, can't see a bloody thing etc" as the man walks round at half time. For decades that's been shouted from the stands, passed down from generation to generation. Plus your THOUGHTLESS proposal will make that bloke redundant too. So not content with KILLING TRADITION, you're MAKING PEOPLE REDUNDANT too! :censored: What next, get rid of GOSBS? Is what you want? Because that's what's at stake here. It's a slippery slope from then on. Christ, we might as well all move to Croydon if this goes through.

Jesus H Christ.

I've only read the first two pages, but this thread has attracted pretty much every manic-depressive-glass-half-empty-silver-lining-with-a-cloud-get-a-life-you-sad-bastard type of person that NSC has to offer.

Lets get it straight, the ticket system has failed for a handful of people because their details weren't entered correctly, and most didn't know their password. For the vast majority this has been a simple excercise.

If you can keep your head when everyone around you has lost theirs, then you probably haven't grasped reality yet..........

No. 'The club strongly advises that supporters apply online, wherever possible, and recommend that fans who wish to buy tickets should register online' is light years away from stating tickets will not be sold in person.

'Gold and blue members without internet access' (how does that work?) 'are advised to apply by post immediatly'.

its very simple. if you want to go to villa do not attend the previous 2 rounds do not go to all home games pay a tenner and bobs your uncle. before anyone asks i cannot afford the outlay of a season ticket but have missed 1 game this season. thats loyalty for u. i would make anyone who wants to go to villa pay 24 pounds for the next home game, but thers no easy tenners on that.

well how f***ing stupid are you?
cheaper to get a season ticket mate.

Unfortunately it isn't light years away from what I was told by the ticket office and what was being posted on Ask The Club.

It states quites clearly as advice that people who haven't joined a scheme should join at the shop and merely apply for a ticket. Not buy one.

I am struggling to see what the actual problem is though, as it seems everyone is ok.

Much ado about nothing. This is an ideal game for the club to look at the new system and how they use it. Because people can still go the game even if they don't get a ticket from the club.

Wait for the next round at the Emirates.
