How is it silly? Look at what he has achieved with Porto. Unbeaten throughout the season, won the Portugese League, won the Europa League, won the Portugese Super Cup. I honestly think Chelsea will be outstanding next season, with him in charge.

While it's a great record, it is with a Porto team that are one of the top 2/3 teams in Portugal and in a league that's far less competitive than the Premier League. Yes he's got a good record so far, but does 1½ seasons of good results mean that he's going to cut it at Chelsea? He might do, but IMHO it's (another) expensive risk by Abramovich.

He saved them for relegation in his first season, they hadn't won any honours a couple of seasons before that. Although admittedly the competition in the Portugese league isn't great. It's an educated risk and one that I think will work out especially with Guus as Director.

Err, he saved Academica from relegation in 09/10, not Porto, who finished 3rd (the first time they hadn't won the league since 2004-5). As I said before, he's done relatively well at two Portuguese teams, and the reviews he's had have been pretty good, but it's not an appointment that's without it's risks. Especially given Roman's notorious lack of patience - if they don't win the league/Champions League next season will he sack him?

he probably would have been better off staying another year at porto to manage in the champions league like mourinho did, but regardless of what league they are in to go unbeaten and win a european trophy means he obviously has something about him

mourinho without the showmanship is how he was described - he should be a perfect fit for chelsea. i just hope he wins something and gets the chance to prove himself
