I think he wont be sacked if he wins nothing next season, Chelsea team is getting on a bit, and Boas has proved his good at building a team, he will have time to bring in some new players i think

and a rebulid is what they need. along with Arsenal and to some degree ManU, theres a risk of resting on their laurels, while a renewed and hungry Liverpool is chomping at the bit to get into the top 4.

Err, he saved Academica from relegation in 09/10, not Porto, who finished 3rd (the first time they hadn't won the league since 2004-5). As I said before, he's done relatively well at two Portuguese teams, and the reviews he's had have been pretty good, but it's not an appointment that's without it's risks. Especially given Roman's notorious lack of patience - if they don't win the league/Champions League next season will he sack him?
I think winning all but five games, four of which were draws, in a season is a bit better than 'relatively well'. Unless you mean relative to everyone else that has ever managed, even in a fairly weak division.

It's the equivalent of doing it with Rangers or Celtic in the SPL - would you laud a manager for that and suggest he get a job at a top 4 club in the Premiership? I certainly wouldn't.

I'm not trying to say that he's crap, just that he's unproven. Maybe he'll take the Premiership by storm - but I certainly don't think it's the nailed-on certainty that some posters seem to think.

The best thing that could happen to Chelsea is if they got kicked out of the european tournaments this year, get rid of all their ageing players and let Boas have time to construct a team in his own mold.

Also bring in Falcao and Hulk.

Is he better than Gus then? I'd have thought Oporto would be expected to do close to as well as he's done, so is his record really THAT impressive? It is as big a gamble as appointing self confessed Chelsea fanatic Poyet would have been imo. Thank f*** they didn't go down that route.

The Portugese league isn't the best but it's a lot stronger than the Scottish. But yes, it would be an extroadinary achievment even in the SPL. Add in a European trophy and I'm sure clubs in better leagues would be interested.

Historically I'd agree about the league strength, but the season before Porto won it Benfica collected only 8 points less than Porto did this season (with a total of 2 defeats), suggesting that there's not much competition in the league at the current time. The better clubs would be interested in a manager that achieved it in Scotland, but I don't think there'd be the clamour/hype that seems to surround Vilas-Boas, and I certainly don't think he'd walk into a top 4 job (costing €15m in compensation!) the way Vilas-Boas has. Maybe I'm wrong.

All I'm trying to do is suggest that he is not a guaranteed success. We shall see I suppose - more heralded coaches than him (Scolari, Ancelloti) have been given the boot by Roman for being 'unsuccessful', so it's as much down to how the mood takes Abramovich as it is Vilas-Boas' actual ability.
