Blimey, an articulate and two-eyed Leeds fan. Whatever next. Great blog title as well (Clarkeonenil!)

Wanted to leave a comment that he is bang-on-the-money (but comments are closed) so hope someone can point him to this thread, where I am guessing he will get more recognition.

And Tim Taylor's Landlord should be the undoubted Yorkshire beer of choice, BHA take note.

So right on so many levels.

I am sick of reading prattish posts from so called fans of this club about how crap we are supposed to be.
I have faith that people who know what they are talking about, especially those who are running the club and the team, just ignore them with the contempt they deserve.

And whilst the article overlooks the utter superbness of us even offering the visitors a beer at all, let alone a local beer, he is right in that we should have come up with something more imaginative. My suggestion would be Black Sheep. Now that is a lovely drop, and harder to find on tap locally than the excelent Timoth Taylor Landlord

A view of us from Dirty Leeds

If this was just a Miserablist contribution I would have a large pit in which
to wallow, takeover still not real, the finances under question, the team
playing the ultimate total anti football disguised as a battling “never say
die” attitude, using the Brighton away game was an example of how frustrating
Leeds games have become, one-eyed fans (or even one brain celled fans), the
choice would be endless. However this is also the monthly comparison club
article (Brighton for 12-13) so I will just have to settle for stitching a
little of that lot into this missive.

Lets us start with the smidgen (or the unquestionable facts if you like).
Brighton are 10th, on a 6 game win-less streak and yet still have the tightest
defence. Leeds United are 12th, same number of points, 1 win in 6 games. Both
clubs are now 8 points behind the automatic promotion slots, only three off the
play-offs but only 8 above the relegation slots. The league stays concertinaed
with no-one running away and no-one yet left behind. Come Tuesday and any
result against Peterborough and Burnely respectively could see both clubs
moving up and down a number of places. The optimist’s on both sides would say
it was all still to play for.

Play for is an interesting concept, in the Brighton game last Friday only one
team turned up to play, Brighton had 60% possession, 16 shots at goal compared
to our 6, but much more than that they played us off the park for 75 minutes.
You could forgive things from a LUFC perspective if that was a one -off but it
isn’t it is now our default away performance, solid, battle, be lucky to have
11 men on the pitch at FT and rely on set-pieces, dodgy penalties and free-
kicks and occasional “in the mixer” randomness. Dull in the extreme.

In Brighton’s case they have the other extreme, some short sighted seagulls are
moaning about the sweet attractive football they play, and want a target-man
(no we can’t sell you Becchio in January!). I can only assume that within the
Brighton support (now nearly three times what it was at the Withdean) are some
glory hunters with no idea. Personally I could stick being mid-table with a
side that plays like that under Poyet rather than pretending promotion can be
achieved with the dross Warnock sends his sides out to perform. As an aside
Poyet was right about Varney and right about Warnock, if a Brighton player had
gone down like that Colin would have whinged on for a week after. Warnock was
also wrong about Mason not sending off Brown. But as is always the case a spat
like that takes the attention away from another lucky point!

As I watched that game unfold I could not ignore a truth that stood out, in
terms of creativity a chasm exists between the two clubs, a chasm as big as I
have ever seen. I doubt Brighton would want any of our midfield in their team,
we however could use a Bridcutt or a Buckley to liven up our attacking play.

Now don’t get me wrong, it is not all wine and roses at the Amex, they need a
couple of additions to their squad to be play-off contenders (and for all the
beautiful football that is their limit this season), they need their new fan
base to get a grip and enjoy the ride, they need to sort out a few logistics
problem (cancelling a boxing day game over a stupid bus company, very BSC level
is that) and they need to be more imaginative on the choice of Yorkshire bitter
they stock in the away end next season (John Smith’s, I ask you)! But for all
that, and despite they difference between the two clubs after 14 league games
is +6 goal difference I would rather have what Brighton have for the next 14
games (be it in club stability, football as it should be loving manager, ball -
passing for fun team and sell out crowds every home game) than what we at
Elland Road will have.

Say it all for me!

I wouldn't object to going up, in fact I'd be delighted but in reality it can't be much fun being a Reading or Southampton fan at the moment can it.

Well done Sir!

DKM makes reference to empty vessels and you promptly prove his point with some facile noise
