Pleasantly surprised to see so many positive comments about PV and what happened last night. Everton must take a lot of responsibility for this. The position of the away dressing rooms, is it really still necessary, or could they not just have the teams coming out one after the other? Given they invaded the pitch after their 3rd goal, it was obvious there would be another invasion at full time, and that Palace players would have trouble getting to the changing room. Saw so many players looking quite shocked when they did reach the tunnel, where half a dozen stewards were forming a "cordon", so much so that they didnt acknowledge us fans right in front of them.
Previously thought Everton represented the good side of Merseyside, but they went down in my opinion last night

I mentioned the away dressing rooms at Goodison earlier. They moved them to portacabins in the opposite corner due to the ones in the main stand not being up to covid protocols at the time of project restart, but the Premier League removed the final 3 restrictions for these at the beginning of March, so begs the question. Why are they still being used when something like this could happen?

I'd like to see a points deduction for Everton for failing to control their fans and a points deduction for Palace for failing to control their manager.

Unlikely. This was a nothing game for Palace. Much more likely something offensive was said. I back Viera completely. The fan shouldn’t have been on the pitch.

On one hand, good on PV for showing the prat that he can't get away with it, but on the other hand, the fan was walking away and PV turn back and then kicked him.

Yes the fan was a prat, but PV is in the public eye, all over the world, and he should have left it and not turned around and kicked him when the prat was walking away.

Its the kick after he was walking away that I'm torn on. I thought the prat may have said something racial that made PV react, but after seeing the POV of the prat, nothing was said, that I could make out, to make PV turn around and chase him and kick him.

But I think the most important component that maybe being over looked is the fans should not have been on the pitch.

Proper tinpot celebrating staying in the Prem, with one game to go, after spending half a billion. Can't remember it happening before.

Oh, and I think the fan is a prat if that didn't come across.

Possibly the guy made a remark as he walked off which was enough to set Viera off... The guy should not have been there , or at least should not have acted like a massive bell end WHILST BREAKING THE LAW....

It didn’t help with Dirty Sanchez giving it the big un to all and sundry.

Vieira looked to be just ignoring what the guy said, and then suddenly went for him. I had assumed whatever the guy said at that point went too far, possibly venturing into some kind of racist/personal comment, but ''suck it you muppet'' is more playground stuff and exactly what you'd have to see as inevitable if you're walking across the pitch on your own like that. The Everton fan is still a **** though and managers/players shouldnt be subjected to it. There should have been more security with him so that nothing escalated.

Yeah I totally agree, but the fact remains Viera assaulted a fan for fairly standard levels of abuse.
Christ I'm far more abusive from the stands every single game.

Yes the fan shouldn't have been on the field. Nor is it nice being goaded.
BUT, it's not ok for a Premier league manager (or anyone) to physically assault someone.
Viera has made himself look like a thug, IMO.

I'm sure Parish and co will come out with the usual levels of finger pointing, but they shouldn't.
They should publicly state that Viera's actions were not acceptable.

It doesn’t matter. PV needs to control his reaction. A bit like a player being hacked down then retaliating by punching the tackler.

Of which drugs has become an inevitable and more ubiquitous symptom at football - I'm certainly noticing it more and more of late in the ground, and on the trains. Pissheads have always been a factor, but the drug element has ramped up massively in the last 12-18 months.

There was an account from a journalist attending an England game this year at Wembley. He reported that there was a massive queue in the mens gents - not for the urinals, which were largely vacant. The queue was for the cubicles.

Wonder why that was.

You're right, but if you stick your phone in someone's face, mocking, taunting them, then you have got to expect a reaction. Cause and effect and all that.
And to be fair, this is Vieira. He got sent off 8 times, which is the most in PL history.

My tip for the day: don't stick your phone in Sergio Ramos' face. Sent off 26 times, all for Real Madrid.

I agree entirely all clubs have a number of kin idiots, but that was 1000s yesterday and why intimidate players who have just lost to your team ?

It’s got worse in the last 5 years with coke being the major cause, you can see the anger in there eyes.

This is where I struggle. With prison in a number of cases you're addressing the outcomes not the source. I believe there was a report that 50% of those in prison have come through the care system and 60% have suffered through trauma and/or neglect.
I'm ok with addressing the outcome but you also need to correspondingly put things in place to prevent the source.

Sadly, this fits the current class narrative and politics in this country where those without are continually compromised and kept down so those who have can sneer and be 'tough on crime'

If you e.g. fly tip, get caught and sent to jail, I don’t care if your upbringing is wow is me. It’s wrong. You know it’s wrong. And you should be punished. Severely. Not simply let off, or fined, don’t pay and then repeat offence comfortable in knowledge even if caught you be severely punished. That’s not sneering, nor classist. I’d expect same to happen to me if I did that. Far too many people are selfish, take way too much out of society and contribute nothing (positive).
