Viera was very restrained I thought. Stood up for himself and didn't go over the top. The Everton fans that stepped in deserve credit too. Why should Viera, or anyone else, have to accept verbal abuse hurled directly at you without reacting. He stood up for himself without acting like a thug, very impressed with his actions. Deserves credit for that.

Contrast that with McBurnie, or that idiot Heckingbottom, who raised the temperature by thrusting:ffsparr: the ball at the Forrest player

Hmmmm. He grabbed the lad who was walking away and kicked him. I wouldn't give him any credit for that The incident was over but Viera decided to restart it.

Self defence doesn't cut it for me. The victim is walking away and Vieira turns to attack him. Had he felt threatened he would have walked (or run) in the direction he was travelling.
A half decent prosecutor would rip the "self defence" argument to shreds.

While calling the throbber a victim really isn't working for me, either.

Everton FC fukked up royally there. A pitch invasion was a dead certainty. Vieira should have been protected. They deserve plenty of incoming flack.

The relevant Everton fans were nob heads. No question.

Vieira lost the moral high ground. He should not have lashed out.

FCFL was a nob head too.

No winners.

This. Big fine for Everton, big fine for Viera.

You don’t need to attack someone to be guilty of assault. Gesturing, verbal aggressiveness…it’s sufficient to be convicted of

So apparently Vieira has a temper.

BUT, players and fans aren't allowed to react to all sorts of provocation from fans from other clubs on the pitch. What the hell are they supposed to do? I thought he went well over the top but as a mate of mine has pointed out, he had no escort off the pitch. Everton did nothing to protect him. It's pretty poor by the home club in this instance. He should be being escorted off the pitch.

There is no chance a jury would convict. Show the video to a jury. One bloke minimum thinking "he deserved a wallop". They'll both get fines, end of.

Incorrect. Common Assault requires contact. Gesturing/verbals/threats etc would come under S4 or S5 Harassment, Alarm or Distress.

Common Assault is summary so Mags only, wouldn't go to a jury.

Victim is the legal term for someone who was (or claims to have been) assaulted. "Throbber" is a term used by internet warriors.

Presumably though if "the victim" made a complaint to the police he'd get a banning order for entering the pitch and his actions to Vieira? As well as being mocked by other fans. Not sure there's much in it

If the victim referenced himself as 'the victim' he should be done for perjury as well.

Well, I believe two police officers that told me once.

So what? Everyone else would have. The Everton fan is 100% the problem here, not Patrick.

Not sure that Everyone would have lashed out.

Brian Clough definitely.
Nigel Pearson - Probably would have gone after him before the abuse started
Graham Potter? Nope.
Pretty much every other Premier league manager? Probably not.

Random abuse from drunk rival fans must be a pretty common experience for most managers.
Vieira has displayed very poor judgement IMO.

Moyes and Conte spring to mind!

So that makes it acceptable? You're missing the point that the 'random abuse' is usually dished out from a distance ... not from someone illegally on the pitch and right in the face of a manager who should not have been put in this position in the first place. Maybe p*ssed up idiots shouldn't be admitted to the ground and alcohol sales banned within the stadium!

He’s not a robot. He’s a human being. Someone goading you like that and the uncertainty of being attacked in the moment I think it’s quite acceptable reaction. You’re judging with hindsight and VAR essentially. FT: Team Patrick 1-0 Scouse Scroat

I'm not saying it makes it acceptable, it really isn't.
None of this sordid little event is ok.
But I'm not going to pretend that dragging the scrote back to punch and kick him to the floor is an acceptable response.

Hopefully all parties will get dealt with accordingly.

Agreed.
But when a human being makes a mistake, there are consequences.

If the abuse was sustained, then the reaction would be more justified.
But the fan had had his moment and was walking away.
This was a red mist moment for Vieira.

The scrote got what was coming to him and so should Vieira.
