nor will we...... another massive day of hype and expectation and nothing signed, which for all the assurances of "in the bag" means more twists and turns possible

But it's been fun nonetheless.

To sum things up Vicente is a fantastic coup for the club and certainly a very exciting signing. It almost seems to good to be true but he has passed a medical so all would appear fine. Just cant wait to see him on the pitch, bit worried about the injury problems but if we get 20 games out of him, I reckon we got a right result....As for the striker being Paynter, I got to say im a bit underwhelmed to say the least and just a little pissed off.....Today has been a bit like a kid at xmas getting his best prezzie first thing in the morning and what a great prezzie it was and totally unexpected. But then later in the day, finding the prezzie you thought you were getting was out of stock so you got a crappy alternative, that you just have to smile though gritted teeth at.

Frankly, i think we forgetting were we have come from under Gus...and this comment just sums up, how spoilt we are now. Do you really think that Gus would just sign Paynter for the hell of it ? He must know, and has seen enough of him, to know that he can become a big player for the club. With respect i trust Gus, and wonder why your obvious fantastic knowledge of football players should be betters than our managers? Your a little pissed off??? f***ing hell... quite unbelievable ! MAybe you should go and watch Orient and see where we might have been right now !

It doesn't seem like that long ago that signing Stuart Storer was big news...I can't quite take all this in at the moment.

Where we might have been?..But we are not are we? So that is a bit irrelivant isnt it, I am simply making a statement based on the information we have been fed by our manager. Nothing more, nothing less or are we not suppose to get our hopes up based on what we have witnessed over the last 18months and what our own clubs staff lead us to belive?

I'd rather they said nothing and then if we did sign someone it would be a pleasant surprise rather than hype it up and then leave us with no signings and a lingering disappointment.

Paynter.... one goal in 23 for Leeds in this division? :nono:

How many did Will Hoskins score for Watford at this level? 1 in 1 for us.

Doesn't mean I want Paynter, I specifically don't. He had one season with John Paul McGovern's supply, and scored 30 goals. Not enough for me, don't like him.

Quite - and hardly equates to signing a proven striker "with presence".

Oh, the mighty JP McGovern. God forbid he has the likes of Noone, KLL AND Vicente supplying him...

I didn't say he's better than any of them. Paynter might do the same for us. I doubt it, but he might have. I did point out that Hoskins has a perfect record for us when he struggled for Watford. I don't have the right to argue with Gus, but I wouldn't fancy Paynter.

i think maybe u also have been a tad niave....also proof in the pudding..players can underperform playing for say one team ....and then b absolutely magnificent for anthr....how much money were u really expecting us to spend...a million..more? ..for basically a person to bring on shud plan a nt b working? I dont think so..i was slightly surprised by Vincelots signing...which with all the hoo ha ovr CMS seemed to slip undr the radar..but if his early performances r to go by ..thn hes a bargain....my hopes r based on what Poyet n Bloom r doing for Brighton fc not on hyped up talk about one player......enjoy!

Blimey, he's actually gone up in my estimation! Anybody who can screw Leeds over like that is mighty fine by me. Also, if he does come to us, he can't possibly be any worse than he has been recently. Good player at Swindle Town too, so much like 'Super' Adam Virgo - I'm willing to give Gus the benefit of the doubt here. Knowotimean?

Im not entirely sure what the history of Paynter is and how many he scored, and for who he scored!! Being top of the Championship playing amazing football, If Gus Signed Stephen Hawkins id think its a stroke of Genius!!!!!

I am sure that Vicente will now happen but I too am slightly underwhelmed by the club failing once again to deliver on what it says. The striker WAS our main focus. The striker WAS in the bag. The striker WAS due to sign twodays ago. The striker WAS going to be completed early today.............................

It really isn't very clever and it isn't the first time.

I'm very happy at the idea of Paynter. He would do a good job for us when and where we need him (which is not as a first choice starter). But he hasn't signed and whether he does or does not come on loan is a question for another day. That aside maybe, just maybe, it gives a chance to someone else. Bergkamp is the only target man at the club. With three games in a week he may just get the chance of a run off the bench in a game and he may just get to show something in a match situation that just doesn't appear in training - rather like (according to Gus) Lewis Dunk did.

Back on topic I would have loved the Vicente deal to have been finalised tonight just so I can dream some sweet dreams tonight. He will without doubt be the most technically skilful and among the most tactically astute player ever to appear for the Albion. I can see him getting Dicker's slot in midfield, at home if maybe not away. Seriously cannot wait to see him at Bristol even if it might be from the bench at first.

I don't now much about paynter but work mate is a Leeds fan who says he hasn't had much of a chance at Leeds,he said he is quite strong but not a target man.
I thought we would have gone for a target man to give us other options up front.although poyet knows more about paynter than most as he coached him at Swindon.
