According to Twitter, we are the only ones in for Barco. My stab in the dark here is that Valentin & his agent have made their choice.according to Twitter apparently Boca are going to reject the $10m + 10% so we can offer $10m and activate the buyout, which seems a bit strange?

Still can't read this type of stuff without hearing:
Surely the club could just meet the amount in the clause and STILL offer a 10% sell-on fee? Not my money, but it's not a HUGE amount extra to splash out (relatively speaking).By bidding we’re offering Boca a potentially better deal than simply exercising the buyout clause. Given this has ‘broken’, quite possibly indicates it’s a done deal as far as us and the player are concerned - if Boca refuse the bid, we’ll simply activate the release clause anyway. Pretty clever move by the club if so.
If we get this one over the line then great credit to our recruitment team and Sam Jewell in particular.
We really are forging a successful path in South America and long may it continue.
AleMac, Caicedo, Enciso, Buonanotte, and now, fingers crossed, Barco.
Obviously Pervis as well but via Spain.
and Pervis and Pedro via er, Watford.
Won't somebody please think of Billy Arce?Let's not forget where it all started: Cristian Baz and Agustin Battipiedi
Thanks for posting. Just thought I'd pick on a sentence from this, and embolden the key part of it:Not sure if this has been posted already, but this analysis of him is so exciting, and he takes corners!
Boca Junior's Valentin Barco: The emergence of Argentina's hottest prospect
Column written by Nathalia Tavares Boca Juniors are known for having one of the best academies in football and for integrating top talent into the first team’s squad. From Carlos Tévez, Fernando Gago and World Cup champion Leandro Paredes, the club has gone on to produce some of the best...www.thecopaclub.co.uk
As the tweet says though, considered more respectful to make a bid - makes sense to me. Suspect the mechanics of meeting a release clause are different and perhaps not open to any negotiationSurely the club could just meet the amount in the clause and STILL offer a 10% sell-on fee? Maybe, but surely it would be even MORE respectful (if allowed) to just meet the clause (for the sake of a few quid (again, relatively speaking)) and offer a sell-on fee? But, as you say, there's almost certainly more to it than that!As the tweet says though, considered more respectful to make a bid - makes sense to me. He’s just a thin Kerry Mayo, not sure what all the fuss is about.
The release clause is effectively the amount required to pay out and end the contract prematurely.Maybe, but surely it would be even MORE respectful (if allowed) to just meet the clause (for the sake of a few quid (again, relatively speaking)) and offer a sell-on fee? Right. Now just offer the full release clause f*** the 10% and start personal term discussions.
Poker playing lizard genius my arse.

From what I can gather here, I think the idea is that he currently has a $10m release clause, but if he signs the new contract on the table, that will be raised to $14m sometime next week. Brighton offered $10m + 10% sell on now in the hopes of getting this done before the new contract goes into effect and as a gesture of good will to Boca. If they don't go for it, they'll try and sneak in a straight $10m offer before the new contract is signed by Barco.according to Twitter apparently Boca are going to reject the $10m + 10% so we can offer $10m and activate the buyout, which seems a bit strange?
