Tim Vickery, when talking about our previous South American signings said that part of the challenge was taking youngsters halfway around the world and having them acclimatise to an alien environment. Mac Allister spoke of the difficulties he had when he first arrived. We've been lucky with him, Caicedo, Buonanotte and Enciso, who all arrived at a very young age and, to a varying degree, found ways to cope with the change. It's not a huge surprise that there will be those that don't.

Well, there were some inklings.... exactly sixteen days after he had signed for us:-

If the Strasbourg rumour proves true though... it's a third European country for him to acclimatise to.

In his appearances for us I never saw anything that made me think he would improve our side. I was slightly surprised so many people seemed so enthusiastic. Maybe it was that the season was ebbing away and we needed something to cling to.
It's because he was energetic and could cross the ball.
His deadball delivery was superb.
Yes - and this too.

Seems like they are putting a lot of faith in FH’s decision making.
cos they've sold Barco ? I imagine he had some input - he worked with him preseason - but at end of day its a) hardly a surprise b) he clearly prefers different players in that position . Presumably you think his "decision making" is not be trusted given your raised eyebrow here . ha ha.

Why are you so sure it’s FH’s decision making?

As we’ve known for a long time, most transfer decisions are not made by the head coach.
They are hardly going to move a player on if the coach insists he wants them in his squad.
Big sales are different I’m referring to Enciso, Ferguson and now Barco. Worryingly he didn’t seem to rate Gilmour either and we have suffered in midfield for a number of games. I really can’t remember the last time we controlled the midfield tempo like we used to with Gross/Gilmour and obviously Mac and Caicedo.

Enciso and Ferguson are still Brighton players and more than likely still Brighton players in the summer. Barco started a mere 3 games for the Albion, all thumping defeats so not sure i'd compare him with Gilmour or well , anyone. We've made a small profit. Move on. . Gilmour by the way has started 5 games for Napoli this season and has barely featured for them in the last 3 months - he's fit - and he was inconsistent for us (and never scored !!) . Of course Agree about Gross, Caicedo, Mac being incredible midfield players for the Albion and finding replacements not easy. Baleba has nonetheless come into his own this season. Just need to find him the right partners (Ayari, Wieffer, Hinsh ? O Riley ? ) injuries there haven't helped so hard to tell but we have some strong options ).

I really don't think we'll see Enciso in an Albion shirt again.

One year left on his contract and not interested in signing another one - he'll be sold.

Yep. I guess thats the case...unless ...we have a new coach. (even more unlikely but a small chance if season goes particularly south from here)

What a waste of time this was for everyone
Maybe, maybe not.

The club potentially makes a bit of money on him.

His new club gets a potentially decent player.

Barco gets a fresh start in a place where, presumably, he'll get more game time and stability and the opportunity to progress his career.

Just because some signings don't work out, they aren't always a 'waste of time'. There will no doubt be more transfers like this one in the future, given the club's policy.

Who would you rather see next to Baleba Billy G or Ayari ( who also can’t hit a cows arse with a banjo).
