Really needs to start getting game time for us now. Maybe I’m being over sceptical but personally felt that RDZ was holding him back to make a point to Bloom about lack of experienced signings in Jan. Feels like exactly the sort of player that could make a big impact and get some impetus going for the season run in like Caceido did a couple of years back.

A complementary angle to that theory may be that RDZ wants Fati to be the 1st choice on the left when Adingra needs to play on the right. After all, RDZ wants to attest his assessment of Fati as potential world class to be correct, as well as his (+ the Club) push for the loan deal to be a brilliant coup, which, he would hope, should warrant another loan deal, or a permanent signing for the Summer. Far fetched?, maybe.

What??!! We miss Mac Allister MASSIVELY! Easily as much as Caicedo.

Gilmour is not in Mac Allister’s league.
Don't agree with the bottom part of this. Gilmour is a very very classy player and is having a great season. He's also playing a different position to where Ali Mac played most of the second half of last season. But RDZ has said the top part before. Ali Mac essentially covered the roles of two midfielders on his own. He was the pivot and the fourth forward player, we've tried to compensate for this by having players like Enciso, Pedro, and Fati playing behind the striker but it has often led to us not being as effective in the transition. There is a gap in between midfield and attack that we just haven't been able to fill.

See all the usual deluded clowns have derailed this thread with the usual Mac and Caicedo crap.

The only way you replace a £100 million player is by spending £100 million. Which we are never going to do.

So you buy a few rough diamonds. Spend a few seasons getting them up to speed, where sometimes they look great and sometimes not, until you get the peak season from them, and then sell them for £100 million.

We are not going to have a Mac and Moises in our squad every season. Gilmour and Baleba are the closest we have at the moment and you need to get your heads around that. Gilmour looks like he's almost there. He's got the quality but lacks the confidence and consistency. Next season could be where he gets it, but then we'll probably sell him back to Chelsea, so be careful what you wish for.

Glad he's reverted back to his Dragon Ball Z hair instead of the cornrows.

Gilmour has done this. We aren’t lacking players like Mac, we are missing a Calciedo type player (hopefully Baleba can be this)
I really like Gilmour and he has great touch, but for me he can still be a tad negative in playing backwards more than Ali Mac did.

Ross Barclay and Ali Mac now have more forward impetus from the 6 role. Gilmour needs to back himself and go on a few more forward runs and hes got bundles of ability, so ping a few more defence splitting balls!

I agree with all this and in bold: - This is one of the reasons I put forward as Ferguson’s dry run of goals this season - Mackie very much was that midfield transition forward-driving player that regularly passed to Ferguson and implemented De Zerbi’s preference to attack through the central areas - I think Buonanotte has filled that 10 space quite well and the few times he has played a bit deeper, to me it’s shown glimpses of brilliance watching him on long runs through the centre midfield. (Ferguson perhaps needs to drop a bit deeper more often to hold up play better as well). I thought Lallana has been very effective in that role too when his head is in it - Buonanotte could learn a lot from him I think. I’m excited too what Barco could bring to our left-sided forward play but that will take time. We have a team in transition this season but I’m really optimistic that the existing young players will gel better with each other with practice - it’s a work on progress (as always!).

Yep. Buonanotte doesn’t have anything like Mac or Lallana’s experience, and Lallana doesn’t have the engine of either of them by some distance. Give him another period of development on his current trajectory and he’ll be fantastic. Barco looks to have huge potential but DeZ has decide when he can trust him. It’s all good.

Why cant this guy get five minutes today? Do Pervis, Gross, Adingra look like they need a full 90 minutes or why are we not using our five subs and our promising players playing because the 100 million people watching this game knew it was over when they did 2-0

Got to be honest Barco looked miles off it against Brentford the other night.

I want to see Barco when he knows what he’s doing. RDZ clearly doesn’t believe he does yet, and that’s good enough for me.

Some people shouting for his introduction now would be the same people complaining that he’s shit and writing him off after 2-3 ineffectual games.

They all need bringing through. Give him time.

I too would love to see Barco in action for more than a few minutes at the end of a game we're losing. I want to see him start a match.

Probably need to see him in training every day to know whether he’s ready for that
His inability to kick the ball, up at Anfield, would suggest he's not.
