If you're interested they released the initial, and more guitar based, album Any Minute Now to little aclaim. So they re-worked it and released an electronic version. The name comes from the name Duran Duran used to give to the club mixes of their singles.

Do you mean NY Lipps? The remix of Lipps Inc's Funky Town? The one with two people screaming at each other? My fave track on that album, that is.

It's true - they were notable session musicians in their day.

Chas Hodges (not the bass player) used to play bass for Jerry Lee Lewis.

Well I don't entirely trust Wikepedia as they reckon they opened for Led Zep at Knebworth in 1979 - I was there and I don't recall seeing them at all mind you I was out of my box somewhat for 48 hours or so - youth eh?

Hard rocking Lemmy from Motorhead was in Roy Woods group Wizzard and can be seen playing bass on the video for "I wish it could be Christmas everyday"!
He was also in Hawkwind and sang lead vocals on their only single hit "Silver machine"

The Stealers Wheel song "Stuck in the middle with You" is an ode to Billy Connoly and another member of a band they used to play with. The lead singer of SW had Billy Connoly to right of him on stage and inbetween songs Connoly would crack jokes. To the left of him was the bassist who would crack uop laughing at the jokes well into the next song hence "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.."

Steely Dan were often attributed as recording this song but they never did, they were however named after a notorious Dildo in a porn film that was doing the rounds at the time.

The lead singer of Stealer's Wheel was someone who went on to have a solo hit which featured arguably one of the best-known saxophone solos - Gerry Rafferty.

The B-side of the original 7" vinyl version of Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division was designed to be played at 33 rpm in order to accommodate 2 tracks (These Days and an alternative version of LWTUA).

But old analogue jukeboxes were of course unable to discriminate playing speed, and played everything at 45 rpm regardless.

I never got tired of sitting in pubs playing it, and for some reason - I think beer may have played a part - always found this "Pinky & Perky" karaoke version of JD hilarious.

I guess we were easily pleased back then...
