It's another fact that left wing people are more intelligent than right wing people. Most debates on here bear this out.

absolutely. the reverse correlation is almost perfect. if you're stupid, it's almost certain you'll vote republican.

All meat eaters should be made to kill the pig/sheep/cow themselves, skin them and cut off the portion of meat they want. Guaranteed there'd be significantly less meat eaters then.

;)

Actually, I would, and in fact do. Anyone who has dined at Chez Gritt will confirm that you do indeed get your regular portions of meat (fnarr-fnarr), and I just have something different.

Mankind did that for thousands of years and it didn't seem to put too many people off.

all people who want to drive a car should learn about internal combustion, mine for iron ore, design an engine and manufacture a chassis. Guaranteed there'd be significantly fewer drivers then.

But surely you can eat wafer-thin ham?

It was the thought of my mum and the sausage rolls that had me in absolute fits at that line.

The Royle Family, what a top show that was.

Not a problem. Cook them a burger. They always bang on about the fact that Quorn tastes like meat so they wont notice the difference.

People wiped their arses with leaves for thousands of years but you don't see too many people wanting to do that today.

Mums are a breed apart. A mate of mine turned veggie while living for a couple of years in Canada. First conversation when moved back home:

Mate: "Mum, I'm a vegetarian."
Mate's mum: "Not in my f*cking house you're not."

:clap2:

This is a four page paper in todays edition of the BMJ. In the conflicts of interests section, it notes that two of the four authors are lapsed veggies (including Gale) and one is a comitted veggie. I love the last couple of sentences:

"People with a higher IQ may well differ from those with less superior brain power in many of their lifestyle decisions: for instance, choice of newspaper, type of books read, preferred form of entertainment. The association between IQ and vegetarianism may be merely an example of many other lifestyle preferences that might be expected to vary with intelligence but which may or may not have implications for health."

So, its reading the Grauniad that makes you more intelligent then?

My dad stopped buying it and the Observer when he went back to eating meat :jester:

Actually, its quite interesting. How about this bit:

'When asked, as part of the follow-up survey, what they thought of the statement “The government should redistribute income,” 50% of vegetarians said they agreed compared with 41% of nonvegetarians, and this proportion was even higher among male vegetarians (61% v 42%). Such views may not be compatible with a career in the more lucrative employment sectors.'

I was veggie for about 12 years but have started having a bit of red meat for low haemoglobin. I don't remember being a raving leftie though. :lolol:

No. My interpretation of this is that it makes you think you are cleverer than you really are. A sort of surrogate IQ boost bought upon by the onset of vegetarianism. :dunce:

That's one of the problems with surveys like this; there are so many other factors.

For example, it's well-known that vegetarians live longer than meat-eaters but is that because a veggie diet is healthier (as veggies contend) or because vegetarians are more likely to be health-conscious, drink less, smoke less etc?

I still think we're cleverer though :)
