Also a permit is okif you are working there all day but for an hour job its not worth spending 2 hrs getting a permit
Good point.

Embrace the future
More larger stores on the outskirts of Brighton with their own car parks
They are doing every in their power to make it more of a inconvenient to drive around the city center in hoping that it will drive cars out and it is the greens who have embarked on further 20 mph zones.
Fantastic. I'm all for it. But the future is people leisurely ambling around narrow streets of interesting shops. There's always Crawley if you love your car more than you love life.
So in conclusion pedestrians and cyclists are the problem?
Such as...?
It's great walking around the traffic-free North Laine of a weekend. Brighton's a fantastic town for walking around full stop and the more areas closed off to private motorists the better IMHO.
Its not that difficult is it - when you have a steady even flow the roads can cope and the traffic doesn't flood (think Somerset) when you get a high volume of traffic the roads find it difficult to cope so slowing it down (think not dredging) makes it flood (think Somerset again)
Thats unless you think the traffic is due to the high gay population in Brighton?
Have you ever seen old Shoreham / Sackville Junction when the traffic lights are down? Traffic flows through both ways no problem no congestion - mind you I 'll give you the cyclists can't get through!

Ladders, tools, materials. Bus drivers get stoppy when asked to wait whilst you load 12 sheets of plaster board outside wickes.

What the f*** has any of that got to do with 20mph - or 30mph?!!
Mate I don't know you and I dont mean to be rude but you are talking absolte crap - if you had a job in the city centre for an hour you would park on a meter it is simple as that!

But Wickes is on a trading estate off Davigdor Road with plenty of free parking!!!
Genuine question here, as I no longer work in Brighton do most of the busy streets in the city centre have meters?
When I used to work in Brighton I would take the easy option and pay to park if this was available, but some streets had residents bays and single/ double yellow lines, which meant I had to get a permit.
I didn't say it was. They say it's about safety, so they target some roads, and then they say it's about safety again, and target completely different roads. I understand what you say about 'aterial' roads, but the reality is that people slow down for the cameras, not for the whole road. The point about reducing speeds has NEVER been about catching people out
I know. I am simple against it, and will vote for anyone that promises to put it all back to 30. Unless they can show me that there were many deaths before the reduction to 20mph, which have been stopped.Plus, it's hardly a Green initiative - one, the Tories on the council voted for it
Yes if you can get on one near to your job but they are really expensive and as you probably know worrying about how long you have left on a meter while trying to do a job is not good.
The loading bays are the best - if you find one say 5 mins from your shop you trot off to deliver or drop off come back 10 mins later and get a ticket because to be unloading you have to have the doors open and be with the vehicle.
Try getting a loading bay in West Street or the Lanes close to where you are working - nightmare.
