Two years ago even at peak traffic hours you could drive down Nevil Road from king Gorge (snakey) past the greyhound stadium and down Sackville Road through Old shoreham Traffic lights without much problem.

That was even with Hove Park School and Blatch kids being taken to school by card - it was busy but ok.

So since the council put in the EXTRA set of traffic lights at the engineerium ( for Legal & General staff) and made the left lane turning left ONLY into Old Shoreham Road and increased the number of light changes at 8am & 5pm the road is clogged all the way!

How is this better? What is the point, the waste of fuel, the pollution ! - Lewes Road is the same at peak periods now - Old shoreham Road the same. Its not an increase in volume of cars, its not to help cyclists it can only be to make life difficult for motorists.

Well if thats the case why not ban taking kids to school by car, why not ban 2 car families, why not make public transport free?

Exactly this.

I come from Brighton originally and I am a tradesman but I will no longer work there, I turn down lots of jobs because of the parking restrictions.

You seriously turn away business because of parking?

The greens have done a fantastic job of bringing small/family businesses to their knees.

As Brighton and Hoves economy has fared relatively well during the recession and above the regional average perhaps you want to tell us on what evidence you are basing this claptrap?!

What gets me is that you can drive all you like at 20mph and it will be safer going in a straight line but as soon as you turn left you will get hit in the passenger door by a cyclist traveling at 27MPh who won't have sen you indicating and is effectively overtaking you on the inside and guess what .... it will be your fault!

The 20MPH thing only works when traffic is flowing but in busy times it actually creates congestion and makes it more dangerous because bikes end up travelling faster. And when its peak time its even worse because there are buses and

You can see this in action in Car Free north Street or Western Road - some cyclists here are moving so fast that pedestrians, taxis and buses have a hard job seeing them in time and whilst I'm on the subject if North Street is 20MPH why don't the buses have to keep to it?

Perhaps you can explain the nonsensical comment that 20mph 'only works when the traffic is flowing?!
I drove along the Kings Road coast road yesterday morning where the speed limit is 30mph and the traffic certainly wasn't 'flowing' then ~ so doe this mean that 30mph doesn't work either?!!

It should be 5mph. It'll flow then.

I'd like to meet the unchained muppet who designed the changes to the Seven Dials roundabout.

WTF was he/she on at the time? Money would have been better spent on hospital paintings.

I thought it had helped congestion. It certainly seems that way. It takes longer to get round the round-a-bout, thereby all entrances on the system have longer to get on. Before, it was quite common for one entrance to dominate Seven Dials.

But can't you just get a daily traders permit?

Yes but :
1) you got to spend time going to get it.
2) You got to pay, so its an added cost on the job which customers dont like paying for
3) when you got it, you still got to find a space new to the job.
Better off taking a job where access it a lot easier.

If i had no work sitting at home watching Jeremy Kyle then yes a i would do it, but all the time there is work to be had elsewhere with no restrictions traders are always going to take the option of not working in town.

I disagree. It's eased congestion about as effectively as taking an orange tic-tac for a heavy cold.

Let's face it - if you're a cyclist or pedestrian Brighton's the place to be. As for motorists, making legitimate journeys, they can feck right off. The Greens may as well go the whole hog and pedestrianise/cycleise the whole place. It won't be long before we're paying to park from Fishersgate to Rottingdean and out to Pyecombe. Come to think of it we probably are already.

Ladders, tools, materials. Bus drivers get stoppy when asked to wait whilst you load 12 sheets of plaster board outside wickes.
Maybe the answer is to give all tradesman free parking waivers just like window cleaners, sign writers and chimney sweeps get and restrict the times normal cars can drive into the city.

Actually you can apply for a traders permit by post and as they last 3 or 12 months it's hardly a hardship is it? And as they cost approx £50~ a month or £2.50 a day Monday to Friday that is not some sort of major expense that you seem to imply as well!!

It's great walking around the traffic-free North Laine of a weekend. Brighton's a fantastic town for walking around full stop and the more areas closed off to private motorists the better IMHO.

If you need to work in town then yes i agree its an expense you have to bear, but my point all the time you have a option of two jobs for next week one in say Bakers street or the other in Freshfield Road which option if working out of a van would you choose?
You would turn down the work in town.

Sorry, I was hoping someone would fall into that trap.

When speed cameras were being put around the country, the most dangerous roads and trouble spots were supposed to be identified, and the cameras were supposed to slow motorists down and reduce accidents and serious injuries in those locations. So the most dangerous roads in Brighton & Hove were identified, and speed cameras put in place. Fast forward a few years, and all the roads with speed cameras keep their 30mph limits, and all the other roads get 20mph limits, so now we're supposed to believe that the opposite was true - that actually they were the safest roads after all, and the most dangerous roads were all those that they didn't put speed cameras on

It's a complete joke.

More like complete twaddle!
