I live on the London/Surrey boarder. I cannot afford a new car at all that complies with the ULEZ requirements. I agree with improving air quality but at this current time, with high energy bills, mortgage rate rises, this cannot be the right time. What am i suppose to do. My misses is a low paid teacher... how is she going to get to school and no she can't ride... we have to drop off our 2 year old to child care and she has 30 books and a laptop to carry. Where is the help? Even if we did manager to buy a car that complies i don't trust the government to change the car compliancy rules again. When i got my car in 2009 Diesel was meant to be the best for the environment. had i got a petrol car i would be ok now.

But what you are actually saying is you can't afford a car, nothing to do with ULEZ at all. If I were to sell my 20 year old Citroen C3 I'd ask about £1500 for it. It has virtually new tyres, new battery, virtually new cambelt and 52k on the clock. And it's ULEZ compliant. Oh, and new wipers. I'm sure other reasonably priced ULEZ compliant cars that have been low mileage second cars will be available where you live too.

Don't tell me the previous owner was a vicar, on account of the low mileage and the bible they left in the glove box ???

You might be amazed how charging unthinking motorists £12 a day would change their behaviour, maybe focus their minds a little before just jumping in their two ton pollution generator for a trip to the shops. Supermarkets charging 5p a carrier bag reduced usage by about 85% overnight

A friend of mines wife is a caregiver who drives around to see her patients in her own car, they now have to either buy a new car which they can’t afford or she loses £62 a week from her already low wage.
Real life dilemmas can’t compare to a 5p carrier bag.

She can always change jobs to save the planet, bit selfish of her
Or just carry on and pay the £62 knowing her tax is making the air cleaner innit

win win

Are you sure about your missus? None of my kids hand in homework in text books anymore, it’s all online.

It varies and depends on the age of the kids, the key stage, the facilities available and other factors. Primary school kids naturally use exercise books as they are still developing their writing skills.

Gods country fortnightly
whoever is promotting ULEZ need to do a better job at explaining only 10% of vehicles that will use the zone are liable for the charge
Agree, it’s been poorly explained.

I’ll say something, it’s a bit tough on anyone doing a Heathrow drop off with a non ULEZ car, 17 quid …

Isn't there a company advertising that they can get you cash compensation if you bought a diesel? That would help buy a car to conform to the new rules.

Only to do with the VW emissions scandal but not sure it’s 2009. Anyway you’d be lucky to get more than a couple hundred quid, if at all

This is a load of bollocks, if you can afford a car at all, you can afford a ULEZ compliment one.

I spent £2k on my first car last year, a 2012 Peugeot 207 that has been extremely reliable and passed its MOT extremely comfortably. Even that is ULEZ compliant.

No, the ULEZ panic is pure nonsense. Every petrol car since 2005 is compliant. If you can't afford an 18 year old car, you can't really afford a car.

The poster owns a diesel not a petrol car, in this current climate it’s not easy for some to go out and. ‘ just ‘ buy another car.
Paying an extra £240-280 a month just to get to work is outrageous. Central London is a different matter it’s mainly business use.

I can see ULEZ coming to a town and City near you too soon.B & H. Now imagine how many posts about park and ride and with a green political make up its inevitable. Another good reason to vote Conservative.
