You have to wonder at the thinking of UKIP voters.

"These Westminster types are out of touch with the man in the street"

"Yes, we need someone to come in and shake up the cosy system"

"Somebody who isn't part of the London-centric elite"

"What shall we do then?"

"How about electing the same bloke who has been representing us for the last four years?"

"Yeah, that's one in the eye for the man!"

Labour held their vote in Heywood and Middleton. LD + CON went from 50% to 17%.

Farage's hot air about mass swings from LAB are exactly that, hot air.

Still ,a good night for UKIP. I don't really think we should read a huge amount into it come GE time.

True but their actual number of votes dropped by 7,000. Labour need to address the fact that UKIP are attracting some of their core working class vote.

UKIP winning the Euro elections? Getting over 20% in national polls? Some very clear policies i.e. Cut Immigration, Get out of Europe that match the issues that most voters agree with. A hugely charismatic leader.

No surprise to me that they get more airtime and I'm more likely to vote Green than UKIP.

I wouldn't go that far. He comes across to me as the weird family member you only see at Weddings. He'll come up to you, try to be best mates and ruffle your hair. He'll talk about something for 10 minutes and during that time you're standing there thinking "Yeah mate, whatever you say. The bar is that way" which he'll then go and find, all the while laughing at himself.

What do the 'anti-UKIP, pro-immigration' brigade put the huge increase in population in the south east down to, Brighton and Hove in particular? A natural increase in the birth-rate?

We couldn't get our daughter into any of the 3 schools we requested, and ended up with the one we really didn't want. The reason - the growth in population.
If you want to see your doctor for a non-emergency appointment, you have to wait for 2 weeks. The reason - the growth in population.
There is going to be a monstrosity of a building site on our seafront soon - PORTZED. The reason - the huge demand for property fuelled by the growth in population caused by immigration.

The PC brigade need to take a look at their high principles and ask themselves what happens in reality.

And me. But you can't doubt that a lot of people find him appealing in a kind of "No ones likes me, I don't care" kind of way. He plays to all the stereotypes, myths and misconceptions going e.g. Anti-white racism, Health and Safety Culture, Immigrants getting benefits etc etc

That's all he is though, isn't he? A walking, guffawing stereotype with a tie.

That's because turnout dropped, whic happens at by-elections (I've never understood why, with all the media focus on them I would have thought it would be more .) UKIP aren't attracking a great deal of core Labour vote - the swing was under 3% from what I saw. Nothing to really worry about.

This is satire isn't it? Surely. (I'm up for the cheaper beer and being allowed to smoke dope in school bits though.)

These are the highlights of the Ukip policy documents published alongside the 2010 manifesto.....I kid you not.....and people have actually voted for them and expect to have a sensible debate....you couldn't make it up !!

The lunatics really are taking over the asylum.

If post 57 accurately reflects the UKIP agenda, is that really the best they can come up with? - its pathetic.

It doesn't though. It was the 2010 manifesto which has already been admitted as a load of rubbish. As yet no political party have released their manifestos for 2015 so it might be wise to wait and see .... unless of course we're going to rate all parties on previous manifestos ?

It's a damning indictment of the current political scene, that a figure so clearly establishment and ever so slightly weird is getting spoken about like he's JFK.

Not sure i'd go as far as shooting him. He'll take his own foot out himself eventually...or his party will.

Indeed, but politics is a popularity contest not an exam on who has the best policies. Like has been said before the majority of people voting UKIP won't look beyond Immigration and EU. They won't know for instance that Farage is in favour of little transparency on politicans expenses or is hugely pro banking

No it wasn't a load of rubbish, it was just Farage saying he had nothing to do with it. Always convenient to say thats not our policy anymore. UKIP constantly putting policies on their website and then taking them down again http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2014/jan/23/nigel-farage-ukip-2010-election-manifesto

The thing is I don't think they need to. The vast majority of UKIP voters don't care beyond xenophobia and Farage's personna. I don't mean that as a slight, it's actually a strength for them, unless something were to happen to Farage.

This is the reason the mainstream parties are struggling to deal with them. You're not dealing with coherant policy based debate, you're dealing with emotion and the cult of personality.

I think that's the main thing for me - most just think "ooh, too many immigrants here, I'll vote UKIP and they'll be on the first boat out of here". Yet, those people will also be the loudest to shout if everything goes up the spout because they were voted in on piss-poor policies and scaremongering.

Every single party does it. Anyway, there were some reasonable policies on that list but of course because they were proposed by UKIP the 'intelligent' class dismiss them. I note you've yet to answer the question as to why I'm a bigot for wanting out of the EU but I guess you're just following in the footsteps of the main three parties and never actually answering a question.
